She reaches for one, then, giving the nearest camera a smirk as though she’s doing something naughty, changes her mind and grabs a different one instead. She rushes back to the microphone and makes the announcement.

My body reacts before my mind can process what I’ve heard. I lunge, my limbs moving in sporadic, irrational ways, as though if I just move fast enough, I can make her take back the words she’s said. If I can make Effie trinket and that slip in her hand go away, then it won’t be real.
