Summary
After Sora and Riku give the rest of their friends access to the Sleeping Realm, it becomes livelier than ever. While some of them use it as a place to hone their battle skills, it mostly serves as a hang-out spot for everyone; it’s not at all uncommon to have at least two people running around the slumbering worlds at any given night, enjoying a few hours of no responsibilities and no world barriers to keep them apart.
All they need to do is close their eyes and dive.

Riku and Sora have always been closer than most best friends typically are; too close, some would say, but Riku convinced himself to stop caring about what others thought of their relationship around the time he turned sixteen.
He’s gotten used to people assuming they’re a couple, to the point where he doesn’t even bother clearing it up anymore. For starters, Sora has never seemed to mind; and in the end, theirs is the only important opinion in this equation: so long as Sora is happy with what they have, Riku is too.
That’s all that matters, really.

That red crept up even warmer in Sora’s cheeks as he stewed, glaring with sheer disbelief at how much of a conniving ass Vanitas could be. “I take it back,” Sora said, stalking forwards to jab his finger into Vanitas’ chest, “you’re the worst.”
“Woah, there,” Vanitas said, holding up his hands. “Might wanna reserve that for your little boyfriend who can’t even stand to look at you. But I’m honored,” he added, bowing with a flourish.
Sora made a sound that couldn’t be put into words, and then apparently gave up on correcting Vanitas.

After all, it had been an easy decision to save Kairi; she had given everything keeping him together in the Final World and he was beyond happy to have succeeded. He really was! As he’d spent his last few moments on the Paopu tree with her, he’d had no immediate regrets, nothing weighing his heart down. He’d felt light and at ease, the calm of a job well done. It was only in those final few seconds, with his pulse beginning to pound in his ears and the world fading out at the edges that he’d glanced away from her tears and caught the briefest flash of silver hair in his waning peripheral vision.
Aquamarine eyes (so perfect, perfect, perfect) that he’d never see again. Not ever. And the sting of that thought had been like an ugly stone dropped in his metaphysical pond, an itty-bitty frustrated ripple in his serenity. How could he die not having...?
It wasn’t fair."
It's Christmas Eve, Sora is back from the dead, but everything isn't merry and bright. How do you move on when the thing you want most is the one thing you can't have?
