Shinso’s breath caught, not in fear but in shock as recognition hit him. “Itachi?” he whispered, the name slipping out in disbelief.

“Hitoshi...” the voice murmured. It was Aizawa. Kakashi’s eyes fluttered open, but it was hard to focus. The world was still too fuzzy, like a dream that was just out of reach.
Aizawa was sitting beside him, exhaustion etched deep into his features. His usual composure was gone, replaced by something unrecognizable—a rawness, a desperation. Kakashi could see it in his eyes, could feel it in the tightness of his grip on the side of the bed. Aizawa was stressed, sleep-deprived, and on the verge of breaking.
"Hitoshi," Aizawa said again, his voice shaking. "Why are you doing this? Why can't you just come back with me?"
