The other boy hummed, agreeably. “Yes.”
The word was a concession and a challenge all in one. Shen Yuan was unable to think a single thought in response to it, his body tense under the pressure of the cool salve. After a prolonged moment, the insistent press lifted, returning back to a chilly balm, gentle and reliant.
He used all his strength to pull his lips into a small smile, the shape of it tentative but kind.“We’re together now.” He whispered, pillowing his hand under his cheek and settling in to sleep, completely unaware of the way this propped angle made his earnest eyes glint in the dark.
