T.W. Grief/mourning, references to the end of this fucking awful show that I love way too much!
It took well over a full moon cycle for Merlin to be able to push open Gwaine’s chambers door. Well over a moon cycle before he could even make it into the knight’s halls without the heavy weight of remorse and regrets forcing him onto the ground with his breath refused to enter his lungs. Well over a moon cycle of a loud type of grief he was so very unaccustomed to letting see the light of day.
i.e Gwaine left behind a letter for Merlin before he left to go try to deal with Morgana.

Summary
Merlin groaned from his uncomfortable kneeling position and Arthur could see the tiny beads of sweat already dotted across his forehead. “How bad is it?” He murmured, trying again to push himself upright at an awkward angle to take a look.
“Merlin, my friend.” Gwaine said with a grimace of sympathy. “This is going to hurt.”
And Arthur took that as his cue. Giving Merlin no time to protest, he grabbed the arrow and pulled free both the weapon and a scream.-
Set in s03e12. Whilst trying to save the Cup of Life from falling into the hands of Cenred’s men, Merlin is hit with the poisoned arrow.
