His husband goes still, even holds his breath.
Blythe carefully props himself up on his elbow and looks down at him. He can just barely make out Kolter's face from the slivers of porch light finding their way through the curtains.
"You gotta tell me what's goin' on."
Kolter sighs through his nose and turns his head away.
Blythe brings up his free hand and presses his palm to his mate's cheek — guiding his gaze back. "Gotta tell me, baby, so I can fix it."
It takes the other man a moment to answer, but when he does, he sounds defeated.
"I don't wanna go to work tomorrow..."

Summary
The prison made money by holding auctions every month. Selling inmates to wealthy alphas looking to collect mates, slaves, people to do whatever they wanted to. More often than not, those alphas tended to be sadists, perverts, or bored old men.
It didn't matter that it was illegal. Didn't matter that the inmates didn't consent to it. The targets were usually omegas and women serving life sentences, with nobody waiting for them on the outside. Nobody to report them missing.
He hated everything about that. Knowing he could be sold into something he had fought so hard to escape previously.
