Summary
It's the universe's way of repaying back the times when Mechaman had beat impossible odds in his fights. Robert just wished it was anything but this.
Or; Robert the dispatcher is too charming and easily snatchable by villains, much to Z-Team's exasperation.

Summary
Ray looks back at the notebook on the desk, perched on the edge innocently, like it’s mocking him. In the corner of his vision he sees Pete and Art chatting innocuously, Olson cussing them out or talking about naked ladies, Barkovitch bounding several paces ahead just to look back and taunt them. The Major spewing some vapid chauvinistic nonsense about ballsacks. Pete, resplendent in the early morning light, something so old and so, so tired in his dark brown eyes. Ray wonders if it’s possible to be haunted by somebody who’s still alive.
I shot a man in Reno, Johnny Cash croons from his mother’s old jukebox in the living room, just to watch him die.
The Long Walk, he tries again.
The Long Walk was the worst five days of my life. It was also the happiest I’ve ever been.
—
Ray lives, having escaped at the last second when Pete shot the Major. A year passes. Pete begins to spearhead a revolution and Ray can’t leave him and the Walk behind.

Maxwell learns what it means to be deemed the companion of one of the Aganti Zernai
~
What if — god forbid — Maxwell hadn’t been able to catch Torse as he was falling?
That last thought almost makes Maxwell understand the comfort people take in fate. With destiny comes certainty. An outcome, whatever it might be, is guaranteed. But this wasn’t, and something about that makes Maxwell’s heart ache.
The feeling radiates outward when Torse turns to look at him, the light in his visor a vibrant gold. Facial expression or no, Maxwell can tell Torse is overjoyed. He’s the last of the Aganti Zernai no more.
It’s selfish, Maxwell knows, but he can’t help but wonder what that means for him. Torse had mentioned wanting adventurers to come to Zern so that it might not be as lonely, but is that even necessary anymore? -

He remembers the gold of Torse’s heart on his hands tearing open Hatwell’s smug fucking face.
He remembers Wealwell, as solid as ever, spinning a perfect arabesque to kick Johnwell in the teeth.

Look. Pretending him and Torse were engaged had just seemed like the best idea at the time. And in both of their defence: Marya had been the one to accept the offer.

His tour guide - “K,” they introduce themself, “Not Katie, not Karen, not Kira. Just K.” - has a lot to say and is quick to say it, talking so fast that it’s a struggle to keep up at first, but he’s determined to try and make this work.
“- and this is the most crucial part,” they say, coming to a sudden stop back in the kitchen. The expression on his face is a serious one. “It’s super, duper, teletonic trooper important,” she says.
"Y-Yeah?” Evan asks. Glancing around, Evan shoves his hands in his pockets, his heart beating painfully fast. He’s desperate and desperately trying not to look desperate. “Name it.”
“So, it’s fine if you’re like, weird and shit,” K says, “That’s honestly kind of a must for anyone that hangs around with us, but you can’t be a creepy weirdo. Are you a creepy weirdo, Edgar?”

He had a wish once, but the more he tried the less he could remember what it had been. It was all gone now, blown away by the gentle winds. Ray was looking at him expectantly. He was clean, he was fed. He was the most well rested he had ever been. There was really only one thing he wanted, only one thing that mattered. “Can I stay with you?”
Ray smiled. He held out his hand. “Sure, Pete. You can stay with me.”
He took the offered hand, soaked in the warmth from the rough fingers. “Where to, Mr. Garraty?”
“Wherever you want, Mr. McVries.”

Summary
The more they’ve walked, the more Ray has thought about it. And as the miles have gone by, Ray has started to think it doesn’t really matter anymore, does it? Queer, not queer, wanting Pete or not, none of it really matters when they’re this close to dying. He’s realizing now that what does matter is just what Pete had said before— this moment. If this moment was all he got, well. Ray wasn’t going to be known as the boy who wasted any more time.

“Promise.”

Summary
Ray had sworn he'd been a dead man. His ticket had gotten punched. Three warnings to forty-seven, and he was more than sure that he'd die. He was ready to give it all up for Pete. He trusted him with his idea in taking out the Major. And when Pete was ready to give his own life up to make sure Ray's idea happened, he knew he had to do the same.
He falls unconscious due to his gun shot wounds, believing that he has succumbed to his injuries. Despite that, Ray finds himself waking in an unfamiliar room and a hazy memory of what had happened once the Walk had ended. The only thing he's sure of? He loves Pete - that wouldn't change. But there was no reason he should be alive, not if Pete was the winner.
Not until he finds out that Pete's one wish was his life.
