“What’s his name?” asked Bob, his tone noticeably lighter.
His name. Huh. Somehow, Yelena hadn’t actually thought about naming him. In her defense, a lot had happened since she brought him home. “He doesn’t have one yet.”
“Oh.” Bob fell silent, brow furrowed thoughtfully. His mouth opened and closed twice and each time, Yelena expected him to suggest a name. When he finally spoke, it turned out he wasn’t thinking about what to name it at all. “There were guinea pigs in the lab. The O.X.E. lab, I mean. In Malaysia.”
“That’s where I found him. I took him with me before I blew it up.”
“What about the others?”
“There weren’t any others.”
Yelena introduces Bob to her guinea pig. It turns out they have some things in common.

“No, it’s fine, I just—” Bob’s gaze shifted back and forth on the floor like he wasn’t sure what to say. Like he was planning for a lie rather than deciding how to word his genuine explanation. “I just wanted to suck you off.”
“And you did. Now, it’s my turn.”
“No, I mean I only wanted to suck you off. I don’t want anything in return.”
“You’re hard as shit right now,” John pointed out. Bob glanced down at his bulge and his face flushed bright pink as he rolled his eyes. “What are you going to do, go back to your room and jack off alone? Is that what you always do after we finish?”

When Walker and Ava hadn’t heard back from Yelena and Bob for a week, they knew something was off. Even though they had moved out two years ago from Watchtower to start their happily (disgusting) married life in Yelena’s quiet Ohio childhood home, it wasn’t like them to go radio dark like this without a snarky check-in or emergency piggy-sitting request.
So, they decided to check.
What they found instead was a feral-child version of Yelena, with her knife skills intact, a pint-sized Bob that looked like a cornered pup, and a house that screamed: “failed experiment gone wrong.”
Now it’s up to these reluctant Thunderbolts to play child protection services until they figure out how to reverse it while trying to stay one step ahead of a Red Room child assassin who wants them dead and whatever catastrophic power might still be buried inside the other one.
Or: Reluctant Thunderbolts* turned reluctant nannies to 8-year-old child assassin Yelena and terrified Bob, who follows Yelena like a puppy.

“You have a valentine, Bob?” Somehow, it didn’t actually hit Bob that it was Valentine’s Day until she said it. Bob shook his head and shoved his frizzy curls out of his face with one hand. “Who are those for, then?”
“Walker,” said Bob, before he choked on his own spit. “I mean, it— it’s not— I didn’t buy them for him. They just came. The tag says they’re from a secret admirer? I don’t really know who that could be.”
“Interesting. Let me see.” He shoved the flowers into her arms a little harder than he intended to. A small wave of satisfaction ran through him when a few of the petals fell on the floor. What was wrong with him? “That’s strange. Nothing identifiable. You don’t think he has a stalker, do you?”
“No. Who would— Who would be obsessed with Walker like that?”
On Valentine's Day, fans flood the tower with gifts and cards for John. Bob is not happy about this.

The silence is awkward. He rubs his own arm, and Bob glances at the contents of the bag. Now that John can get a better look at him, the lights on and face-to-face, another kind of thought creeps in from the back of his mind. Bob is pretty, and he doesn’t know what to make of it. The thought is sudden, brief, almost nonsensical. Pretty is not the word he uses, though, but he refuses to repeat it.
“Well. Thank you.”
John nods, turns around, and leaves.
