Summary
Alastor's life was stable. He has a secure job, a comfortable routine, and had the time to indulge in his most secretive hobby. His friends, though lacking and more singular than plural, provide enough in his life that he feels no need to strive for more, content with continuing as-is.
And then, in the blink of an eye, he risks losing it all in the face of a deal. And while at first he considers it a fluke, all too soon must he realize that the deal was absolutely real, and the reality of such crashes upon him.
If Alastor breaks his side of the deal, then his soul will belong to said devil and every misdeed shall fall back upon him tenfold. His fame, reputation, and very life will be in the hands of the actual, literal devil. But if he upholds it? He'll have freedom like no human has ever had before.
Sounds like a fair enough deal, right?

This is so good? So delightful? The plot is weaved so wonderfully together, the layers and world building and characterization is as fascinating as it is compelling (which is to say it's extremely compelling)! The involvement of the gods and hints and reveals are all so interesting, and the "acts" are separate enough that they do feel like acts, but also flow and ebb into each other with ease.
But that last line.. oof

Ingo and Emmet are twins with the Dragons' Blessing - the ability to fuse their bodies into one at will. They have never found the ability very useful in their daily lives as Subway Bosses. However, everything changes when Elesa returns from a trip to Sinnoh with a museum catalogue, and the twins learn of Warden Ingo's existence.
Emmet refuses to let Ingo go to Hisui alone. He will not lose his brother. No matter what else he loses.

Amazing, superb, delightful, super bravo!!
The depth in the world building is wonderful, the descriptions of loss and re-finding yourself in two similar yet completely different ways is quite moving. The care, warmth, love, and coziness this story contains is very soft, despite the despair it shares.
Also, aroace representation! It may seem silly, but that means the world to me <3

Absolutely increadible. The depth, the emotion, the world building, the lore. The little bits of characters that matter for the sake of their existence, the gentleness in it's sorrow, the hollowness in it's grief. The humour ebbing and flowing despite how the past, and future, haunts the narrative. One of the fics of all time, it is akin to both a hug and a shove, a rollercoaster of bittersweet comfort as more and more questions build up. There's no way to not get invested in the series, and I'm grateful I had the chance to read it.
May I read it again later, with new eyes and new appreciation for the masterpiece that it is. To balance so much and to not feel empty nor distracted is fantastic. The characters are treated with such respect (and not, when the world demands it), and how Ingo has found a place in the world despite it all is a melancholic sort of peace.
And for as much time has past for everyone else, it's only 2 weeks left for Emmet!
Different than perhaps my other bookmarks, but I'm a different version of me than I was before, and will be different than the future too.
