“Beautiful,” In the back sat a couple of hospital rooms, partially quiet and relatively vacant besides him and one other unidentifiable being four doors down. “That was beautiful.” Hendrick couldn’t contain himself, shoes subtly squeaking with each step closer.
“God, I watched you on the camera. It was horrible to see my favorite asset fall like that. I would scold you for being so careless to the reagents but…” He finally reached the bed, unsure of the best place to rest pale hands while the officer blearily peeked up at him. “It was simply marvelous for both parties. Your first failed trial in one hundred and twenty-four tries, and their first delicious score from I.”
Coyle coughed on a laugh, a tube of oxygen in his nose that Hendrick was sure would take pressure off of his horrific smokers lungs. “Ain’t you a charmer. Be a doll and give me a smoke.”

Mark has been feeling off ever since his last rut—unsettled, restless, like something inside him is out of sync. It should have passed by now, but instead, the discomfort lingers, a quiet, gnawing hunger he doesn’t understand. And, for some goddamn reason, being around Cecil Stedman makes it better.
Which makes no sense.
Cecil is a beta—cold, logical, emotionally distant in a way that should irritate Mark more than it soothes him. But the more time Mark spends around him, the more his instincts scream at him to pay attention. His father once told him that Viltrumite instincts were powerful, undeniable, especially when it came to omegas. But Mark is more than his Viltrumite nature. Right?

Cecil will know if he's telling the truth or not, and if this Cecil is anything like his own, then he knows he's a persistent bastard. This was a younger version of Cecil, a really attractive one. With a sigh, he gives up, and as he speaks, he can't control the blush spreading across his cheeks.
"We're lovers."
