Quackity took a few steps away from the cake he had made, having just gotten done with the finishing touches to the icing. At this point, he was bound to mess it up somehow the longer time he spent on it and it had to be perfect. Even though he doubted Slime— Charlie would mind his cake being imperfect, Quackity himself didn’t want his surprise being inadequate.
Charlie hadn’t actually ever mentioned his birthday. Quackity wasn’t even sure if he even celebrated it, or if slimes usually celebrated like that. Thinking about it, he wasn’t sure if anyone really ever celebrated theirs at all either. But it would soon be a year since they had met, and he was sure that at some point in the past months Charlie’s birthday must have passed. Better late than never, he supposed.

"Sir, do you know why this giant hole is here?” The child suddenly asked, catching the older man off-guard. “I’ve asked dad but he never answers me about it." A beat of silence. "My friend Finley said that sometimes giant holes just appear in the ground but I don’t think she’s right about it.”
Wilbur stared at the child for a few moments. Had thirteen years actually passed, it would have made complete sense for the child to not know about the events that had taken place there, but as it stood with only a few months having passed, he quickly came to the conclusion that the child and his father must have came to live around there recently. “There was an explosion, I’m pretty sure.”

Nightmare has absolutely no idea why he has been handpicked to become part of the weird school he's been promptly sent to. Like everyone else around him, he has been kidnapped and brought to a secluded island inside a seemingly active volcano, where the school has resided for decades. All the kids are elite, the best of the best, as the man in charge of the school would say.
The only problem is that Nightmare doesn't exactly want to be there. At all.

“What are you…” Eddie swallows hard, mouth dry. He wishes every teacher that ever told him he talked too much could see him now.
“I was hoping that invitation still stood,” his eyes are drilling into Eddie’s and he can’t explain why he needs this so much, but he does. Every beat of his heart is begging Eddie to open the door, to let him in.
There’s a beat, a catch of their eyes and Eddie shifts, pushes the door open wide, whispers, “of course,” whispers, “always.” His heart is in his throat, he can’t pull his eyes away as Steve steps in, crowding him so close they share a breath. He can feel Steve’s gravity pulling him in and he’s never wanted to collapse so badly.
