“I don’t care,” Jayce muttered, his voice low and rough. His hands slid down to Viktor’s waist, pulling him closer. “I want you".***
PLOT: Jayce and Viktor are young students at the Academy, who meet by an accident. From the very beginning Jayce is truly fascinated by his new colleague. To his surprise, Viktor is not like his other friends. He is distant, mysterious, but also extremely brilliant, good-looking, and—what seems to be the biggest problem—completely resistant to Jayce's personal charm. This casual acquaintance becomes a real challenge for Jayce.
The young Talis has no idea that his relationship with Viktor will turn his life upside down.

Viktor flipped carefully through the pages. There were a good two dozen runes detailed in this book, and Viktor only recognized a handful. This was a treasure trove. "Jayce, this is--"
"Good find, yeah?" Jayce's eyes were already lit in a way Viktor knew well. The way that meant We are about to science the shit out of this.
"The gods have smiled on you yet again," he admitted.
"I think the best way to identify these is going to be combining them with runes that we already know the effect of and isolating the changes in behavior."
Or, Jayce and Viktor play with magic they don't understand in the name of science, and end up learning far more than they expected about themselves and each other.

Charlie lingers in the locker room long after all the other boys have left, almost as if he doesn’t want any of them to see where he’s going, and that more than anything convinces Nick that he’s got to do something to find out what’s wrong. So when Nick leaves the locker room, he turns a corner and then hovers there, waiting to see which direction Charlie goes.
He’s not sure what he’s expecting—maybe that Charlie’s sneaking off to see Ben again? But Charlie doesn’t meet up with Ben. He doesn’t meet up with anyone. Instead, he ducks into a broom cupboard and emerges five minutes later in pajamas with a rucksack slung over his shoulders and what looks like a sleeping bag tucked under his arm.
Nick comes out from around the corner. “Charlie? What are you doing?”
