Shane Hollander, first-round draft pick of 2009, captain of the legendary Montreal Metros, is twenty-seven years old and has never won the Stanley Cup; it's starting to seem like maybe he never will. So far away from the city that we can’t even hear them calling our names.” Joker’s practically shaking with excitement. “It would go off without a hitch, what with our two heads put together? I get shivers just thinking about it.”
Or the one in which Batman and Joker go on a holiday to Romania. Things don't go as planned and I still can't write fluff without angst.

“I don’t…” Ed starts, but then he pauses, the words getting stuck in his throat. Brave man that he is, he closes his eyes, takes one deep breath, and tries again. “I don’t know what to do.”
It makes sense. It shouldn’t, not really, especially considering how they had just been lying here in silence and halfway to sleep not five minutes ago, but there’s a sort of helplessness in Ed’s voice that Stede understands perfectly. They’ve been here before.
“Alright, my love,” he murmurs, more to himself than to Ed, and begins to shift.
While Ed watches on in bewilderment, Stede sits fully upright in bed, and gently tosses the covers on his side away, exposing his legs.
Lightly patting his thighs in gentle encouragement, Stede says, “On my lap, darling.”

It took Stede a while to warm up to it, but in the end he couldn’t deny that the thought was appealing. Not for himself, that is, but to experience Ed in this way, open and unburdened and Stede’s to make feel good.
And now, atop Stede with shaking thighs, Ed whimpers, bucking eagerly into the loose grip of Stede’s fist, and Stede is rapidly beginning to wonder why he ever thought to protest the idea in the first place.
“Shhh, darling,” Stede soothes, stroking his thumb over the gap between two ropes on Ed’s back. “Quietly now.”

When it’s announced that the prehistoric exhibit is going down for maintenance, he decides to take his department on a 3-week amateur dino dig. There, he meets senior paleontologist Edward Teach, who’s sick of museum work and hates that the amateur digs exploit the free labor of people who are passionate about paleontology and archaeology. He’s also sick of most of the people he meets on these digs, who all treat him like an unapproachable god. Until he meets Stede Bonnet, who has heard his name but never had a face to put it to and actually treats him like a person for the first time since he discovered a major fossil. Stede is freshly divorced and has never thought about his sexuality. But he feels a strange draw to Ed that he’s never felt with anyone before.

divorced for three years, stede has been rebuilding his life, bit by bit. now a tailor with his own (small) business, he's functionally started his life over— complete with his very own friend [with benefits], ed teach.
ed used to run a bar and grill, but it took all his time and energy. he sold the place so he could use the money and live his life the way he wanted to. problem is, he's still figuring out just exactly he wants to do and who he wants to be.
after their arrangement leads to an accidental pregnancy, stede and ed have to navigate their relationship backwards, prepare for a baby they didn't expect, and fall in love while they figure out how to fit their two lives together into one in time to become a family.

Summary
Stede Bonnet never really got over Ed Teach. Maybe that’s because of their long-distance friends-with-benefits situation they’ve had going for three years. Maybe it’s because when Stede falls in love, he does so with reckless abandon and doesn’t bother to try and get out of it. But just because he never got over Ed, doesn’t mean he hasn’t tried, and with minor success. He may even be a little bit (just a little, just a really, tiny bit) in love again.
This would be alright if Ed hadn’t come back to Port Republic. Maybe just for the holidays, maybe forever. Stede certainly doesn’t know, and while he is actually happy to spend the time with Ed, there’s that issue of being a little bit (maybe a bit more than a little, but it’s too soon, really) in love with someone else.
