Summary
You stand for election because you want to piss off Wilbur fucking Soot, who thinks he can drag you out like some little dancing monkey for his cause, and because you’ve never encountered a thing that you didn’t want to own in your whole damn life. And sure, a nation’s a pretty big thing, but your eyes have always been bigger than your stomach. You’ve always been greedy.
Always wanted what you can’t have.
It’s a doomed attempt, and you know it – you’re up against L’Manburg’s pretty-boy founders, so you’ve lost the nationalist vote from the start. And the thirst-trap vote, and that one shouldn’t be a big deal, but it’s honestly the biggest share of the voting contingent as far as you can tell. Your campaign looks pretty dead before it’s even born.
Or, rather– it looks pretty dead until you meet Quackity. He’s young, and pretty, and he’s not got that sweet little British accent but he’s easy to play like a fucking fiddle so you’ll take what you can get. You flatter him, and ask for his votes, and his eyes don’t leave your mouth the whole time you’re talking.

Schlatt doesn’t know what to say. It strikes him suddenly that these will probably be his last words to Quackity. There’s nothing he can say that will convey how he feels; the mess of sorrow and self-pity and apathy and regret that he feels. None of it will make Quackity feel better. There are no justifications he can give to undo the damage he’s done. So he offers none.
“Okay,” He says instead. His throat, quite suddenly and without explanation, tightens so he can barely speak.

“They’re on my pining playlist,” Zagreus explains dejectedly.
“Your what?” Achilles asks as Patroclus very clearly and audibly laughs at him.
“Please help me."

He's late, he realizes.
There's a lot of blood here, he realizes a moment later. Not the blackened stains of shades temporarily banished, but the dark-red and glistening of mortal blood, spattered in desperate arcs across the grass, staining the water where the River Lethe pools. Across the chamber, it shifts to a trail of blood, the imprint of bare footprints burned into the darkening liquid.
There. There, slumped with his back against a green-glowing infernal trove, an ethereal sword buried in his chest, a pool of blood slowly spreading beneath him—Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, his warmth and light so faded that Thanatos didn't even realize he was still in the chamber.
