Steve's life with Bucky has gone very far over the years; from a sugar arrangement during Steve's college years, to falling in love, now to marriage and a domestic life together. It might not be conventional, but Steve's favorite thing to do with Bucky is to just stay at home.
It's a Saturday during the transition from spring to summer. Steve and Bucky spend their day doing chores; mowing the lawn, laundry, dusting. The work isn't something they dread doing, they enjoy the quiet time and the fulfillment of the labor. It makes it extra satisfying to lay down on a freshly made bed with clean sheets at the end of the day.
And they have sex a couple of times. Why not? It's their house, their time.

Bucky broke the silence, as if he couldn't handle wondering anymore, "So a kink party. I never would've thought I'd see you someplace like this."
Steve couldn't help but see the way Bucky was looking at the leather straps on his wrists, eyes locked on and almost disbelieving. "Yeah, well there's a lot about my sexuality you didn't really ask about. Case and point, I never would've guessed you'd be here either," Steve shot back, taking another sip from his drink.
Bucky watched him for a moment longer, eyes glinting with something that was making Steve feel heated and a little overwhelmed in a way that he really shouldn’t be. "I was stupider back then, but it's not too late to ask now right?" Bucky pressed with that grin on his lips, the one that said he was going to get what he wanted, and Steve was going to give it to him.
(Or the one in which Steve and Bucky discover that maybe their tastes aren't so different and maybe that's not such a bad thing.)

He does not, by any means, expect James Buchanan Barnes.
Because James Buchanan Barnes is an Army Major sitting in Tony’s lab for a fitting of a Stark prosthetics prototype, and he is the most beautiful man, no: the most beautiful human being Steve has ever seen. And suddenly, Steve has to square with falling in love, hard and fast and all-consuming, with a person who fits into Steve’s life, who curls around Steve’s soul like he was made for it, and who might break Steve’s heart without ever meaning to, just because he’s a normal, precious, mortal man—and the serum quite likely made Steve something else.
Or: Steve Rogers never thought he’d live past 25. Now, he has to make peace with quite possibly living a hell of a lot longer, and losing the love of his life in the process.

Steve is, somehow, still alive when the fighting finally ends. Again. Which is good, everyone keeps telling him how good it is. And it’s not that he doesn’t agree, not that he didn’t want to make it through the latest round of horror. But, he’s starting to think that while he may not be dead, he’s not really alive either. He’s not sure he ever really was.
Bucky is just the guy that lives a few doors down from Steve and occasionally nods at him when they pass in the corridor. That is until a mix up with the mail makes him wonder if he might be more, might be the spark he needs to actually start living. But, predictably things are never that simple and Bucky might be more than he seems.
