Grace’s foot caught on the bottom of your cardigan. He tried to catch himself, but it was to no avail. After a few seconds, he crashed, hard, into your lap.
You, thankfully, cushioned his fall. It could’ve been a lot worse. You were only a couple days away from retrieving the predator sample, and Grace couldn’t very well collect anything with a broken bone. He heaved a sigh in relief.
“Uh, Ryland?”
The relief he’d felt moments ago was replaced with dread. Grace shot up from where he’d landed and saw you covered in Rocky’s powdered 'seasoning'. He glanced down at himself after.
The gloves had kept his hands safe- yay! But, every other inch of his body was coated with the same power. The now empty, deep jar sat just a few inches away from the two of you.
Oh god. Nearly everything on Erid was lethal to humans. Grace very well might have just killed the two of you, and Erid and Earth could kiss the solution to their problems goodbye.
or: grace and reader have a cultural exchange with rocky in the form of video interviews. in the middle of one, they get an accidental, large dose of what ends up being sex pollen for them and have to bang it out. a lot.

Summary
At the time, Ryland subconsciously hadn't let himself put a name to that gooey, fluttering feeling that had been steadily building when he was around you. But now, after being accosted by the memory of it presenting so unabashedly, it feels so painfully blatant. He loves you. Or did. Or was beginning to, at the very least.
Which feels wrong to say, since if that's the case, that means the person he loves (or loved) is currently in an unrousable state of paralysis, literally over seventy trillion miles from any kind of professional medical help.
He tries to convince himself that won't come around to bite him on the behind.
OR: you wake up on the Hail Mary four months late.

In a perfect world, the Hail Mary’s assigned Flight Surgeon wouldn’t have to be woken up early from comatose. You knew when volunteering to be sent that if the Protocol was initiated, there’d be no going back into comatose. You’d be faced with whatever problem the automated care system alerted you with, along with however many years it took to reach the Tau Ceti system before anyone else on the ship woke up.
You’d be isolated. Taking care of three astronauts on the Hail Mary. Nothing prepared you that this mission was about to become way more complicated than you anticipated.

And after hearing about this, your grandma offers you to move in with her for the summer in Chimney Rock, even though it's been ten years since the last time you saw her; but because you don't have anywhere else to go, you agree and end up in upstate New York for the summer. This should just be another summer with her, almost the same as the ones you spent with her as a child, and you hope to have a job secured by the end of the season.
What you don't account for, however, is Father Jud, the new priest at your grandma's church who is slightly awkward, very kind, and kind of hot?
