Summary
For centuries the tradition of the mating run has survived within the wolf packs. One night a year, unmated alphas have the right to hunt for a mate until the sun rises again. Tsukishima never cared much for these runs. That is until a particularly unpleasant alpha made a promise to claim one of his friends.
Trying to claim Kageyama Tobio has become something of a challenge and no one has ever come close to catching him before. And still, this year, the omega worries.
Tsukishima isn’t sure why that bothers him so much though.

Kageyama pauses, flips through the nearest book on his right, then clicks his tongue. Kei feels glee spark. It’s short-lived, though, seeing that—“Either way, number eight is still wrong.”
Kei narrows his eyes, yet, better be safe than sorry, reviews number eight anyway; and, to his chagrin, he did indeed not take into account the opposite-oriented force of the gravitational pull. It’s an outstanding display of patience on his part that he merely erases his answer and doesn’t throw the rubber at Kageyama, even if it’s fuelled by sheer stubbornness.

Todoroki Shoto is a prodigy. Some see his prowess in fighting and academics, a perfect quirk accompanied by his cold facade and think him arrogant, a brat, lucky. What they don't see is Shoto being one year old and already running through exercises too taxing for his small body. Shoto being two and running through kata that have no place in a toddler. Being three and already burning and freezing with a power that only brings him pain. Four and reading through medical textbooks that he shouldn't be able to understand, much less need. Five and burning under both of his parents. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten and eleven and burning in the training room with a bedroom filled with textbooks and blood stained floors. They see his prowess but they don't see that the boy applying to UA is too small, twelve years old and already broken.
Some do see. Those used to fading into the background and watching notice that he is not cold but confused, not rude but awkward. They see that he could take down most pro-heroes but doesn't know how to play or hold a conversation. Todoroki Shoto is a prodigy but he isn't arrogant or a brat and he most certainly isn't lucky.

they may be an odd group of friends, but they work well together. most people don't know though. it's not like they're hiding that they're friends. to be fair, they thought people knew how close they were, but apparently not.
take tooru oikawa and tobio kageyama for example. ask someone who doesn't really know what they're like around each other outside of volleyball (read: most people) and they'd tell you they despise each other. that's simply not true. What most don't realize is they're as close as brothers.
featuring a very odd combination of goshiki, terushima, oikawa, and kageyama. and sometimes lev. i don't really know why, but i just love the idea of the four of them (and by extension, iwaizumi) being childhood friends.
pre-established iwaoi
yuri on ice!!! characters are tagged and present, but they aren't a huge part of the story. it takes place 4 years after yoi!!! canon so yurio is 20 for reference.
