He knew Vil and Rook were both planning something for his birthday. He could tell just by their behaviour alone; where Vil was blatantly telling him to be quiet when Epel asked what they were planning, while Rook was ignoring his questions.
They had something big planned for Epel, if he had to guess. Though he didn’t expect what the present would be, nor did he anticipate the overwhelming amount of emotions he felt at once.
OR: It’s Epel’s birthday. Vil and Rook decide to buy Epel a chest binder for his special day.
