Ilya finishes whatever he has been doing on his phone, and tosses it gently to the bed beside him. He crosses the room to Shane, stands in front of him, squeezes into his shoulders with his big hands, rubbing them like he means to warm them up.
“Looks like we will have a little vacation,” he says, with a big obnoxious grin.
Boston and Montreal are sent to Paris to play against each other in an exhibition series in January 2017. Ilya and Shane decide to stay in Paris for one more night. Just one more night, so they can talk. Maybe finally understand each other.
They aren't expecting a volcano to erupt in Iceland and close all the airspace in Europe, leaving them stranded there. Together.

The first fic I EVER read for this pairing because the question haunted me while reading Role Model and seeing the scene from Troy's POV. What would you do if you played the long game and the prize you were living for was no longer possible??? ;A; explores how f-ed up it would feel to postpone your happiness to maintain your career only to realize it would inadvertently cost you the only thing that truly really mattered to you. AND YOU DON'T REALIZE IT UNTIL AFTER MY GOD.
If Ilya's plane had crashed. Shane falls apart completely. so in character, so heart-breaking and the portrayal of grief is beautiful and so true to life.
The most painful fic i'VE EVER READ MY GOD. Destroyed me. So well-written, stark, does not pull punches. I have never forgotten this fic and never will -

When Rozanov unexpectedly crosses Shane's path four years later, Shane resolves to be courteous yet keep his distance. But Ilya is just as beautiful and charming as he ever was, and he’s determined to give what they'd once shared a second chance. A real chance.
It's a bad idea. Shane knows it's a bad idea.
