Summary
Mask had a god on his belt. Soldiers spoke in whispers of the deity that the boy could unleash, the obliteration of enemy lines, the way the tide of battle could turn on a dime when Mask so willed it. Some of the whispers were awed, some were fearful. Some were jealous.
“Why not just let the Deity fight the war?” some brave souls asked. “Why involve us at all?”
The Captain was not pleased with those questions, and for a time, the whispers subsided. And then they began again, with a new question this time.
Why entrust a child with such power?

“We’re sick,” Groose, who did not look sick, repeated seriously. “All three of us.”
To his other side, Zelda let out a tiny, extremely unconvincing cough.

“How’s this?” Link asked, leading her into a small clearing covered with thick moss, dotted with flowers. Malon could hear a small creek flowing just on the other side. It was idyllic and serene and just perfect.
“It looks wonderful,” she told him, giving his hand a small squeeze.
They had a little picnic there of some of their baked goods - Malon’s muffin was delicious, and she let Link try a bite when he looked a little bit longingly at it. In return, he let her have some of his cupcake, though he did dot a bit of frosting on her nose and laugh with her about it.
She was so lucky, Malon thought, shifting so she could lean back against her husband’s chest, his arms automatically coming up to circle around her. Link may not always believe he was worth the effort and expense, but she did. He was worth every rupee, every moment of thought. In fact, she was rarely able to give him enough.

Wolfie reared back from the women with a violent sneeze. Hyrule tripped over thin air. Wind’s eyes went comically wide. Sky made a weird squawking noise. Four’s mouth dropped in silent horror.
“Oh, how wonderful!” Warriors said, serenely oblivious to the chaos happening around him. And Legend?
Legend was going to kill everyone in the Chain and then himself. Because are you fucking serious.
Time gets pregnant. Everyone else notices this before he does.
(AKA: I saw all the trans!Time headcanons, and then thought, "Wait, if Twilight is his canonical blood descendent then that means..." promptly followed by, "You know what would be really fucking funny.")

Jason Todd has a plan.
He has a plan to protect those in the East End of Gotham who he loves. All he has to do is destabilise Black Mask's empire and become the new Crime lord of Gotham. A task which isn't as easy as it looks on paper. As Jason's priorities shift, Batman and his brightly coloured proteges becomes a side-note in his plan.
Despite this they seem to pop up awfully often.
Especially when they slowly decide one by one that the Red Hood is friend shaped. Honestly its not great for his street rep.
Oh and there is always the matter of the Joker to be considered.

But after a few "sightings", a few things were clear: it only targeted criminals, never the innocent. It seemed very protective of children.
Everyone, from the police to the civilians, decided it was best to leave the creature alone. After all, it seemed more than willing to leave them be if they left it be.
Crime began to dry up as the years passed; criminals became more cautious knowing a shadow could descend on them any minute.
After over ten years of protection, the people of Gotham believed that their "Shadow Bat" was truly benign.
That is, until the day the orphaned acrobat disappeared...

Nightwing’s smile widens. Batman can see the wickedness leaking into the smile. “Does everyone usually go?”Diana nods, “Typically yes. Almost every leaguer will be there. It goes throughout the day, and we end up at shifts there in a way, so that we are still patrolling, but ensuring we can still all interact. Batman is the only one who has never made an appearance.”
Turning to look at Batman, Nightwing leans forward to get a better view of the man. “Really? You don’t say.” Nightwing smiles sweetly. “And why is that Batman?”
Batman glares at Nightwing. The two stare at each other for several tense seconds. Nightwing is holding back a smirk. “Don’t you have a family you’d like to meet everyone?”
Superman puts up a hand and starts to cut off Nightwing. “Now, Nightwing-”
“Wouldn’t they like to meet the league?” Nightwing questions, cutting off Superman.
“No.” Batman deadpans. Pushing back from the table, Batman stands and turns away.
“You sure about that?” Nightwing practically taunts.
