Summary
Nacho definitely remembered dying.
He remembered holding a gun to Bolsa’s head, knowing that even if he pulled the trigger, he would be gunned down in an instant.
He hadn’t wanted to give those assholes the satisfaction of shooting him. He did it himself.
He thought he might remember being dead. There was definitely a sense that time had passed. But… his death had been quick. There was no light at the end of a tunnel; his life hadn’t flashed before his eyes. He had pulled the trigger, and then he was gone. He hadn’t even had time to register the sound of the gunshot.
But when he finally managed to claw his way out of the dirt that covered him, he was alone. No Salamancas, no Fring and his goons, no Bolsa.
And there was a sense of… blackness, he supposed. Like when you wake up after sleeping; even when you can’t remember any dreams, your mind knows that time has passed.
It felt a little like that.
(Nacho wakes up in the desert more than four years after his death. With the Salamancas' iron grip on the drug trade gone, he meets Jesse Pinkman and Walter White.)

“What’s that you’re singing?” Bex asked her. She combed through Atropos’s hair, carefully working out the knots. Her claws were short and dull compared to Atropos’s razor-sharp ones. Her shears, though, had no trouble cleaning up the ragged, scorched ends of her hair.
“Hm?” Atropos asked. Had she been singing? She had been drifting, enjoying the hands in her hair and feeling very… brittle.

Summary
this series contains stories based on or inspired by the Adventures in Middle-earth roleplaying system, which brought Middle-earth to the 5th edition rules. i started to run a campaign some time ago, but the group fizzled out after a few sessions, which was very disappointing to me as i had planned a lot of material and worked quite hard on the worldbuilding and story.
one of the biggest reasons i loved this system so much is that the players take on roles of the ordinary folk of Middle-earth, who may not be called to a high destiny the way Aragorn or Éowyn are, but instead people much more like Sam or Bilbo, who end up on adventures because they are just people trying to help. the players in this game aren't main characters, they won't be the ones to defeat Sauron, but perhaps through their actions they can save lives and hold the Shadow back a little longer.
i found i still wanted to tell the stories i'd planned, with the characters i'd made intricate backstories for. so here i am, playing dnd by myself, and writing about it. maybe someone out there will enjoy it too.

Nico looks between Ian and Mickey, and Mickey squeezes Ian’s waist. Ian grins at him, and Mickey takes another swig of beer. He’s starting to feel light-headed, and he doesn’t think it’s the fault of the cheap, shitty alcohol.
“They're offerin' $10,000,” says Nico.
Mickey splutters beer out of his nose.
“Fuck you, you waited ‘til I was taking a drink to tell me that part,” he snaps.It's not like Mickey intends to get roped into planning the celebrity wedding of the century, but hey, shit happens.
