Summary
Canada had given him his life as he knew it, but it had never felt one hundred percent comfortable, either. He missed Russia sometimes, but it didn’t have the thing that mattered most. Ilya had exactly one home, and it was this: his face pressed into a smooth chest, his head tucked under a strong jaw, with freckled arms wrapped around him and delicate fingers combing through his hair. Anywhere else was a temporary excursion.
A treatise on second (and third) languages, homesickness, acceptance, Shane's struggle learning Russian, and the things people do when they care.

Summary
No one is going to win a Pulitzer interviewing him, and Shane is okay with that. He spends most interviews rephrasing the same five sentiments--I’m happy we won or We need to work harder after that loss.
They are a good team; the win was hard fought or They are a good team; there is a lot for us to take away.
And finally: I love playing on this team, for our fans.
Then Ilya Rozanov bursts into his life, and answering questions becomes a little more complicated.
or: Shane Hollander, interviewee, throughout the years.

Summary
Harry finds himself in the liminal space between Martinaise and actually having to be Harry Du Bois again. He needs to return to his apartment, and his job, and his life, but the prospect is terrifying; everything that was once him is everything he can't allow himself to be ever again. Kim helps him make the transition, and Harry pines wildly over him. They eat food and talk about the homo-sexual underground. Harry tries not to cry a lot.

Summary
“Nobody seems to know what to do with you. When I received the call, the warden seemed bewildered that you were even here at all.” It was a phone call that Naoto would not soon forget—the chilling way that the warden seemed to continually forget what he was asking mid-sentence, unable to latch onto Akechi’s name as if his existence was something contingent on his direct and immediate presence.
Akechi bared his teeth, eyes in shadow. “Nobody has ever known what to do with me,” he said, voice dripping acid.
“Then, this should be refreshing for you,” he said, delighting in the way that Akechi’s gaze sharpened as Naoto plucked a nonexistent piece of lint from his coat. “You’re coming with me. To Inaba.”
At the end of P5R, the world forgets Akechi.

"Rodney's my desert island guy," he says finally, because it's the simplest, truest thing he can say: if there's one person he gets to keep with him, he chooses McKay. It's as simple as that.

PECEPTION (SIGHT) [Easy: Success] - Ahead of you, Kim is stretching. The lean muscles of his bare shoulders shift as he bends down in a toe-touch before you start. His control over his body is unmatched. He straightens, adjusting his glasses, and starts running.
PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT [Medium: Success] - He’s been holding out on us. This is a man with a fine physique.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Maybe this wasn’t a mistake after all?

YOU - You’re vastly overthinking this. No one cares about badge photos or puts any thought into them. You stand against a wall and a bored clerk tells you to hold still and don’t make that face, and you get it a week later. This doesn’t matter to anyone. Except you.
CONCEPTUALIZATION - Because it’s taken on Significance in your mind. Now it's a symbol of all you've lost.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY - And it's not a bored clerk taking your picture. It's Kim.

Summary
“Now you’re—” Stede babbles, going absolutely pinkish. “You’re laughing again!”
Ed nods, still giggling. “I’m just—I’m sorry, it’s not because—”
“Am I doing something wrong?”
“Stede, darling,” Ed says, cupping Stede’s face. “Don’t be foolish. It’s because you’re doing something right.”
Or: Stede’s never laughed during sex before. Hell, he’s barely even smiled. So when Edward can’t stop giggling during their first time, he’s not really sure what to think.

Summary
Ed and Jim are both new to this whole “committed relationship” thing, but apparently people in relationships get each other gifts. A difficult task when one has no idea what they’re doing.
People in love – at least, people from Stede’s world who are in love – get each other gifts. This is a newly learned fact for Ed, but it is a fact nonetheless. Mary got Stede gifts. Mary got Stede many gifts. The lighthouse painting still hanging in their shared captains’ quarters, that was a gift from Mary. Stede has half of a petrified orange beside their bed, a gift from his daughter.
Stede owns nothing of Ed’s. Ed has given Stede nothing.
This may, he realizes with dread, have been an oversight.

Summary
The guard posted on their barracks gives Ed a weird look as he sneaks back in that night, almost like he wants to bolt. It's not entirely unexpected--though the rest of these idiots may think he's tamed, this one has sound cause to think differently--but the back of his neck prickles a warning at that look of terror all the same.
There isn't much he needs to collect, and he'd packed most of it up before leaving to acquire a dinghy. No sense being weighed down with obvious proof he means to escape. Stede's bunk is already empty, of course, the man himself led off by the guard outside half an hour before, but this is Stede. Best if Ed checks for himself to be sure he didn't leave behind anything important.
Like his stockings. And his shoes. And every fucking thing else save the piss-poor clothes the quartermaster gave him. What the entire fuck?

Summary
If there’s a truism in his profession, it’s that fear is a better bet than love. A man fears you, you both know where you stand. Love, though, love’s a right fucker. Steals your footing out from under you, leaves you dizzy and useless as a green-arsed cabin boy on his first day at sea. But he doesn’t want to be thinking about this tonight. That’s why he’s drinking.
(Four months later, Ed's on a bender in Nassau when Stede finally tracks him down.)

Summary
When Stede finds out Ed has never sat for a portrait, he requests that Lucius see to the matter.
The only problem? Lucius has spent the past several weeks claiming he can only draw nude figures, so he doesn't have to sketch Stede at every given opportunity. It's a lie, but a useful one, especially when so many handsome pirates are now willing to pose naked for him.
Including, apparently, Blackbeard.
Or: Ed poses for a portrait in the nude, and Lucius has to watch Stede go through a life-altering internal crisis, witness a frankly upsetting level of sexual tension, and deal with the most fidgety portrait subject ever. At least he gets to ogle Blackbeard while he's at it. For the sake of art. Obviously.
