Summary
Steve was Steve. He was Captain America, son of Sarah Rogers, lover of the Brooklyn Dodgers, lover of the New York Americans, the heart of the Avengers, relatively normal-ish. Though those changed didn’t they? Dodgers play out in the West, the Americans were disbanded after the Rangers took over MSG, and as Steve got more in his head, the Avengers noticed how he wasn’t acting himself.
Bucky was Bucky. Hockey extraordinaire, captain of the New York Howling Commandos, lover of sports and his teammates, steady-headed relatively usually. Bucky just wants some peace, and to make it out of this new season in one piece, preferably with a few new records and trophies along the way. But what happens when a lucky rink mix-up brings the two together? Steve doesn’t want to admit he likes the smirk of the cute guy at the ice rink, but chaos and hockey ensue. -

Steve’s knees nearly went out from under him, but he grabbed onto the table to stay upright. He whined – he couldn’t help it. His chest cracked open, breaking him down until he was sixteen years old again, thin and sickly.
The pale grey of those eyes was so familiar, but Steve hadn’t seen it, hadn’t even thought to look for it. How? A voice screamed inside. How did I not see?
His entire being trembled as he whispered, “Bucky?”
The Soldier’s usually cold eyes changed then, something flashed in them as his nostrils flared, harshly inhaling Steve’s scent before he said the words that finally made his buckling knees give out, forcing Steve to the ground.
“Who the hell is Bucky?”A ghost found his way to the Avengers, asking for help - a ghost of a man long thought dead.

Summary
In the wake of the Battle of New York, Bucky Barnes bade his old life, or what was left of it, farewell. He bought a deserted cabin in the Catskills, exchanged orthopedic surgery for woodworking, and built a new life for himself as a carpenter. Six years on, Bucky still leads a peaceful, if solitary, existence. Maybe it gets a little lonely sometimes, but that’s why he got himself a dog. And a cat. And a goat.
In 2018, Steve Rogers finally hangs up his shield. He trades Avenging and New York City for the peace and quiet of the Catskills, grows a beard, and isolates himself in an attempt to salvage what’s left of his sanity and identity. After living his life in the public eye for so long, Steve believes that calm and solitude are exactly what he needs. Of course, he didn’t count on meeting Bucky Barnes.

But amongst the animals and nature he learns what his priorities are. Especially once he meets Steve Rogers, who lives in town and is friends with Bucky’s grandmother. He falls for Steve hard and by the end of the summer he realizes he doesn’t want to leave. He has found his home and the love of his life. He quits his job and gets a fresh start with Steve. It's everything he has ever needed.
