Pretty good. Not generally what I’d go for, but it was a rec, and who am I to turn down Ranboo centric sbi? Bit of a mystery, I liked piecing stuff together and mentally screaming the answer. Also the writing is very good, they write Ranboo well. Phil is kinda not the best, which you know I don’t really like lol, but I know you don’t mind as much and the fic is excellent besides that.

Wilbur is six when his little brother is born. He does not like him.
Wilbur is fourteen, Tommy just eight, when their parents die. Wilbur is the one who answers the door to the police officers. He’s the one who gets Tommy and tells him they need to go to the hospital, though he refuses to explain why. He’s the one who the surgeons look in the eye and tell that their mother, and then their father is dead. And when Tommy wakes, looking up from the makeshift pillow that’s really just Will’s balled-up jacket, it’s Wilbur who holds his brother as close as humanly possible and explains that they’re never going to see their mom or dad again.
Wilbur is fourteen, and he doesn’t think he’s a child anymore.Or: Wilbur and Tommy get separated in the foster system, and Wilbur isn't doing so well. Thankfully, therapist Philza, serial adopter of children, is here to help!

Very good, beautiful ‘it gets worse before it gets better.’ Made me laugh out loud a couple of times. This feels like a popular published ya novel. Don’t get scared off by the length, it’s well paced. I personally skipped over the crossover foreshadowing at the end, I don’t really have an interest in the sequel, and it still wraps up fine without those end of the chapter bits. Enjoy lol.

Summary
Things are almost good for a little while. There is something like safety, like healing settling over the little cabin in the snow.
It feels a little bit like coming home, Tommy thinks, but he doesn’t say it out loud. It scares him sometimes, this vulnerability, this stability that could be torn out from under his feet at any moment. Trust is something he has felt like a knife in his back over and over. Trust is falling again and again even though there’s never anyone there to catch him before he hits the ground. Trust is broken bones and split lips, trust is spitting out blood and using his tongue to check for loose teeth.
And yet, and yet, when the same hands that curled into fists once before extend as open palmed offerings, he still takes them. Dream called him stupid, helpless, naive. Dream was right, Tommy knows, but Dream smelled like gunpowder and a bitter kind of smoke.
The smoke here is sweet and Tommy has never been one to learn from his mistakes.
Tommy had been Theseus for a little while. Tommy had been Icarus, Atlas, Prometheus.
But before all of that, he had been Tommy. Maybe there was a place for him to be again, now, in the after.

The kid shoots up and he looks scared out of his mind for a second before scowling. “I’m not a fuckin’ kid,” he snaps. Wilbur laughs softly, the kids eyes are blue, they remind him of Phil.
“Right, how can I help you?”
The kids’ bristling demeanor dies down instantly and he looks suddenly much more nervous. The kids posture is shit, Wilbur notices, his shoulders are up and slouched over his chest almost protectively. He starts fidgeting with sleeves of his shirt and he quickly but quietly pulls out a five dollar bill, he slides it across the bar to Wilbur.
“Could I have a- could I get a-“ He pauses, shakes his head and looks up.
“Hamburger and sweet potato fries,” He says it with a confident voice but scared eyes and body language.or phil, techno, and wilbur own a diner and tommy becomes a regular customer. one found family arc later and they adopt him

After being exiled, Tommy didn't think his life could get worse. His only solace in his isolation from his old friends was being able to fly in secret at night (unbeknownst to Dream, who refused to let him do much of anything fun, let alone use his wings). Tommy's wings, one of the only things he has that Dream doesn't.
Until Dream catches him flying.
And rips them off.
