Jaskier wasn't in the market for a replacement witcher. Not after Geralt had broken his heart so thoroughly. There must surely be more appreciative audiences and travel companions to be had, and if he was lucky maybe even with a smidge less chaos and mortal peril thrown into the bargain.
Yet within a fortnight, he'd gone and stumbled across another witcher in the middle of absolutely nowhere. It's possible that Destiny is laughing at him.

Aiden forces himself to take his hand in a firm shake despite the shock that's numbing his limbs. "Aiden," he says, flashing his teeth in a smile. "You're the Toss a Coin bard, right?" Aiden says, like Lambert didn't spend his whole winter bullying Geralt into agreeing to a late spring meet-up and then ditched Aiden for it specifically for the chance that the bard standing in front of Aiden right now would be there.
Sweet Melitele, Lambert is going to hate him when they meet back up next week. This is amazing.
Or: Aiden meets Jaskier when he least expect it. He promptly decides that if anything ever happened to him, he would kill everyone in this town and then himself. Which would be a shame, considering that this strange town has been so unexpectedly kind to him.

He has a house, a strange, crooked look to him like the meanness that lingers on a reformed street mutt, and he lives with his niece and legal dependent, Jenny. He doesn't aspire to be anything. Barely even thinks much. But Jenny's happy and taken care of, so he'd say he's doing alright.
Jenny is in year 13. She's got a lot of friends, gets great marks in school, and—she's a bit embarrassed by this, but—she's also got quite the affinity for Sirius Black. She hopes to ask him out sometime, and eventually, she'd love to take him home to meet her uncle. She doesn't know why, but she has a feeling they'll really get on.

Other consequences are not short-term at all.

I was watching the Chamber of Secrets movie several years back when the scene in question began to play...and immediately I wanted to know what would happen if the wand had done what it was supposed to do. The answer got very complicated, very, *very* quickly.Blame Edgar Allan Poe for the title.
