When a last-minute trip right before their first year of college doesn't quite go as planned, Frank and Gerard's friendship starts to unravel. As they grow up and battle with careers, relationships and considerable trauma, it seems that things can only ever get worse when they've been ignoring one simple thing for more than a decade -- that they've been in love ever since the start.
[Or: the one where Gerard writes a screenplay, Frank's band goes double-platinum, and no matter how bad things between them get, they can't quite seem to stay apart.]

You can find those in my other works, but you can also follow this story without reading those first.This is the story of how they fell in love, at a time when being gay was illegal. Separated by class, and eventually war.
Gerard is the son of a Lord. Frank is the son of the gardener. Best friends as children and inseparable. As they grow, so do their feelings for one another.

Over the years, Frank and Gerard’s relationship blossomed, and turned from friendship to romance.
They have been separated by the First World War.
Frank enlisted and Gerard did not (his family claiming ill health prevented him.)
This story is told mostly in love letters.

Summary
Frank always felt bad leaving, sometimes for a week or two, but knowing that Gerard had something to keep him occupied made him feel somewhat better.
That is until Gerard found another way to spend his time. Or rather, someone to spend it with.

Frank shakes his head frantically, “I’m not crazy, don’t look at me like that!” And even if he was, he feels pretty fucking strongly that he is allowed to rave like a mad man after that. “I’m not fucking crazy, you saw it!”
Gerard sighs quietly, reaching out to touch Frank's cheek. “I know you’re scared-” he sounds so reasonable that it makes rage seer through the smaller man’s veins.
On most occasions, Frank loves hearing those gentle tones from Gerard’s mouth. This is not one of those moments. Gerard is trying to calm Frank down, and Frank will not be fucking calmed down.
