Summary
Park Seonghwa thought he was handling his terrible night quite well. He had experienced the worst pain of his life, blacked out, and woke up alone in the hospital. At least, he was handling it well until his doctor looked him in the eyes and asked a question that turned his life on its axis.
“How much do you know about werewolves?”
Seonghwa was a completely ordinary university student. He had a dead-end job, a cheap apartment, and enough student debt to fill the ocean. A completely ordinary, completely human student. Of course, he knew that not everyone could say the same. He, along with the rest of the world, was well aware of werewolves, a long-misunderstood subsect of the population.
Seonghwa had never been particularly worried about werewolves. He knew the basics, and that was enough for him. After all, it didn't affect his life at all. At least, not until a trip to the emergency room had him questioning everything he thought he knew about himself, his family, and the world.

Hurting him is unavoidable.”Yunho couldn’t refute that simple truth, much as he wanted to continue to fight it. To change the reality that Seonghwa’s time with them would only be intervals of such pain. Over and over and over.
Hongjoong sighed, shaking his head and sliding his palm over the side of his face briefly. “Look, Yunho. This isn’t some competition. Seonghwa is a guide, we’re espers. It’s our job to protect him. All of us.”
Yunho shook his head vehemently, unwilling to accept that bullshit reasoning. “I don’t want to protect him because he’s a guide. I want to protect him because he’s Seonghwa.”

“I’m perfectly fine,” Seonghwa smiled again, turning his head to press blue lips against Hongjoong’s, chill against heat, then leaned forward to kiss Yeosang’s forehead, “I was having such a strange dream, though, and…”
His words trailed off, before he attempted to start again, eyelids drooping with sleep, and just when Hongjoong went to help him lay down, Seonghwa’s breath caught in his throat, a sharp inhale.
Then a whimper bubbled up from his throat, lips quivering as if he were close to tears. Eyes locked on the window, his favourite view from the estate. Yeosang reached to touch his face, to wipe his tears, but the whimper pounded into a scream, so loud that the three in the room flinched, Mingi fumbling with the vial of blood that was crushed in his grip, spiderwebs of pain splintering through his palm struck with shards of glass.

Mingi’s hands tremble and he fidgets with the buttons on his shirt and chews on his bottom lip. “So, is there something you specifically want to work on or, um, do you have questions?"
“Am I free to go?” Yunho’s words slice through the tension between them and pierce his chest.
Mingi raises his eyebrows. “O-Oh. Yeah, if you don’t have any biochemistry questions.” It is the beginning of the semester, Mingi rationalizes. Yunho probably didn’t have any course work yet.
Yunho quickly stands and turns to leave the library in several long strides. Mingi stares after him even as the door closes behind him. The rest of their classmates are still seated with their tutors. Mingi frowns, feeling like he and Yunho are already off to a bad start.

Mingi comes from a wealthy and powerful family, whereas Yunho must compete in an illegal, underground fighting club in order to pay for his university courses. She had him, there, because it wasn’t Jack’s idea: it was Charlotte’s. Charlotte claimed that, while doing some of her recommended exercise, she’d gone up to Jack’s floor for a visit. Upon reading some of the literature left at his bedside about recovering from traumatic brain injury, she’d realised that a holiday at Halstead was just the thing. It offered clean air and quiet, a full-time staff, and a supportive environment. After all, as Charlotte pointed out, if Jack went back to his flat and tried to resume life as usual, he’d soon be carousing with friends all night and set his recovery back weeks if not months.
(“Don’t you think so, Susie?” Charly had asked her, and Susie blinked her wide blue eyes in the way she only did when another person had a surprisingly good point to make, and Eddie felt the jaws of a trap close down over him.)
