He stumbled back, slow clumsy steps that lost their balance as he fell to the floor, landing first on his butt as he leaned forward with a gulp of air. The white blob of Swansea’s lab coat approached without any hurry as he stood above the hunter with a peculiar gleam in his eyes. A twisted expression of satisfaction as he observed the venom’s claim spreading over his entire body.
“You son of a bitch.” Geoffrey slurred his words, craning his head up to meet the doctor’s gaze left his head spinning. The pain in his neck spread up into his jaw and down into his chest with every thunderous beat ticking down the moments of his imminent demise.
“I would have very much preferred a healthier specimen for my experiments but you’ll simply have to do, Mr. McCullum. You surely understand that this is for the advancements of science and medicine.” Swansea fished a silver vessel from his coat pocket where a syringe was meticulously held in his grasp.
Geoffrey sucked in a breath that struggled to fill his lungs, drawing it in again in a second attempt as he cursed. “I’ll kill ya Swansea. I swear it.”

As Jonathan got up to leave, Geoffrey met him at the door with a small smile shared in appreciation when a loud noise caught both their attention. O'Connor's head snapped up at what sounded more or less like an explosion and a bowling ball striking the floor at the same time. There was a scream cut off halfway through accompanied by bellowing and raucous.
The three men raced through the halls to see what had happened. Taking the stairs two at a time, Jonathan slipped past Geoffrey and came to stop at the third floor near the library where the strangest series of contraptions were arranged.
The smell wasn't pleasant at all, but what made Jonathan stop in his tracks was a part of his brain that screamed DANGER!

The next time he opened his eyes, the pain had settled to a residual ache in his ribs. The tight sensation like his lungs were being strangled by a tremendous pressure was now absent, only present in sharp stabbing jolts when he’d take too big of a breath. Geoffrey didn’t dare move at first as he felt the extent of the damage to his body, finding an oddly tight sensation on his arm. As he blinked against the bright lights, he realized with a sickening sense of fear dropping in his stomach like a lead weight, that he was inside a hospital. The water stained ceiling stared back at him with ugly dark marks and the softer murmurs of who he recalled to be Nurse Hawkins chatting with Nurse Branagan made his blood run cold. He glimpsed an IV in his arm and most of his clothes had been replaced by the itchy thin gown that was customarily given to the hospital patients.
