Summary
They’ve had what Kaveh calls the ‘fungus conversation’ several times now. It started as a joke about the architect somehow devolving into a fungus, but Kaveh insisted on bringing it up again every so often, repeatedly claiming that at least he would be a fungus with empathy.
Meanwhile Alhaitham, presumably, would not.
Kaveh’s insistence on this point seems strange, not least of all because Alhaitham thought he knew him better than that.
Alhaitham is turned into a tiny fungus. It is not an ideal situation.

Summary
“Do you mean to tell me,” Kaveh hisses. “That I got hit by a ley line and got cat ears?”
“Lion ears,” Alhaitham corrects, dispelling the mirror. He seems remarkably unfazed by all of this, blinking curiously at Kaveh’s new appendages. “You seem to be in possession of a tail as well.”
A ley line accident leaves Alhaitham and Kaveh with snow leopard and lion features, respectively. As they wait for the effects to (hopefully) wear off, they realize the ley line might have had some effects that go beyond changes to their physical appearance...
In other words, Alhaitham figures out he can purr, but only when Kaveh is touching him. Cuddling for purely scientific reasons (and totally nothing more) ensues.

Illuga moved, his body having made the decision even though his conscious mind hadn’t caught up yet. He pushed Flins out of the way and felt the lance stab him in the heart through his back.
Strange, how that was almost painless. Perhaps his brain simply didn’t catch up yet. Perhaps it simply blocked away the pain. Either way, it was a small mercy. Slamming into the sand was hilariously more painful than the stab itself.Illuga took up an attack that would have injured Flins, nearly dying in the process because of the Abyssal corruption that took over. Flins refused to let that happen, even if the method to save Illuga wasn’t something he was proud of.

"Young master." Hushed. The words land the way a pebble ripples still water. His smile withdraws, "I believe you have left something in the cemetery by mistake."
A heavy silence befalls their figures. The lock of the metal door grinding against itself as it was pushed shut. Illuga had no intention of admitting the impertinence of his actions to the man before him. Saying it, making it known would certainly kill him, more than everything already was; that he could not stand seeing others lain in earth the longer he lives; that he was faking the whelm of his position—a captain, one who overcompensates. He refuses to turn to the other man and meet that gaze of his; and more than ever, he feels himself shake.
"I don't know what you mean, Sir Flins."
"A headstone," the fae answers, each words gentle in utterance. "Inadvertently carved with your name."

Although rare, fragments of his godly remains were spread throughout Sumeru. Most were corrupted by the withering, but some were unblemished, whole in the reflection of the past. Any scholars who encountered them meticulously catalogued them, tracking patterns about where and how they formed, and how to end them. The usual way was to act out the memory itself, taking the role of Deshret and his companions or enemies.
