“I need a convincing alias,” Jason says, staring at something between where he is at the window and where Dick is seated over ten feet away on his couch. “I...can’t outrun someone who’s League-trained and knows who I really am. I know people who can get me nigh-perfect forgeries of official paperwork and a decently credible backstory, and they have. But...none of that means anything so long as I don’t have an anchor. I need a real, legal connection to someone I can be seen with. Otherwise, a Jason Todd by any other name would die as painfully.”
Jason pauses, here at the crux of the favor he’s come here to ask of Dick. He still can’t bring himself to meet Dick’s eyes and now he bites his lip like he’s not sure he can say the words, either.
But Dick is no fool. He sees where this is going. He says the words for Jason.
“You need me to marry you.”
Jason’s jaw clenches.
And releases. “Yeah.”

He took another steadying breath before walking towards his bedroom. He kept his footsteps almost silent, unwilling to let the omega think he was a threat. His bedroom door was cracked, the smell of heat getting thicker as he approached, leaving no doubt that there was definitely an omega in heat nesting in his bedroom. But as he carefully opened the door and laid eyes on the omega in question his brain just…stopped. Because it was Jason. There weren’t many other people who looked like the second Robin, due to his physique and the tell-tale streak of white through his otherwise jet black bangs.
But that didn’t make sense because Jason was an alpha.
No, Dick’s mind whispered to him, you all just assumed he was.

Jason is about two hours away from his heat. He’d gambled on this trip being straightforward and distraction-free. He doesn’t know why it only just hits him. He’s in the horror section of his favorite book store downtown. It’s his lunch break, and the shift lead likes him, so he gets a few extra minutes to window shop. He’d seen the new Stephen Graham Jones in the display case, an ominous orange red, a record needle stretching across a bleak expanse, and he’d gone in, listening to the far off chime of the door bell.
He’s just got it in his hands, the feel of the velvet dust jacket on his fingertips, the smell of warm pastry from the instore cafe, when it hits him.
Jason doesn’t talk to his dad anymore, and he hasn’t really talked to him in years.
