Jesus Christ I have never felt so misled by tags or so incredibly glad about it. This author is brilliant in everything except in what they somehow think is the A-plot (yes Steve and Eddie get together, the "enemies" party of enemies-to-lovers lasts a whole half a day, it's sweet it's great it's fine) and what they apparently believe is the B-plot (an incredible, excellent plotty spy adventure complete with psychic kids and excellent Steve character work, aka the ACTUAL STORY). This rules.
(Also they've clearly been to Chicago or at least done a hell of a lot of research. You know how many fic writers actually know Dan Ryan Woods? Apparently it's exactly two, so fuck yeah on that geography drop.)

Summary
The people of Hawkins were still alive, folding donated t-shirts into neat piles in the middle school gym, and passing out boxes of canned food to families in need, and smiling to each other as they said, hanging in there? Good, me too!
But then the ground fell and the fires started.
And then the Hawkins citizenry abandoned ship like they were time travelers aboard the goddamn Titanic.
And then the Hellfire Club and associated extended party members commandeered Loch Nora and turned it into a safe zone for the miniscule remaining population of Hawkins.
And then the dead people started showing back up.
Or: Eddie’s in love with Steve, but it doesn’t really matter because the world ended a few months ago and he’s been living on borrowed time ever since. Steve’s in love with Eddie, but he’s been through this before with a wild-eyed, steady-handed survivor who was better off without him, and doing it again might be enough to kill him this time.
Or or: The Party are vampire hunters in post-apocalyptic Hawkins, in a world where soulmates can't harm each other.

Summary
Eddie Munson was practically raised by the concept of harsh realities, and he’s learned not to want things that he’ll never have, which isn’t as much as a bummer as it could be, because making the most out of what you’ve got is just as good.
Steve Harrington, despite his reputation as a casual flirt and a serial dater, has a bad habit of falling hard and fast and never really recovering. Steve Harrington, despite his reputation as a bit oblivious, and a ladies man, figured some stuff out about himself four years ago and promptly squashed all those feelings into a box he never intended to see the light of day.
In which Will coming out forces Steve to be open about some things (because Steve’s issues will always take a backseat to making sure the kids feel safe). And Steve doesn’t mean for Eddie to find out, but he does, and it turns into a bonding experience. (And it’s the best and the worst, because having him as a friend is more than Steve ever could’ve hoped for, but it also feels a little like dying.)
