Bob’s jaw tightens. “Don’t call me that.”
John doesn’t apologize, just shrugs under him. “Hit me then.”
Bob hesitates again. Then he pulls his arm back—still straddling John—and goes for it. A clean punch, not fast, but committed.
John is lonely and somewhat depressed, but so is Bob. Somewhere along the line, they get used to each other’s silences, odd as they find it.

Summary
The sound of a vacuum is abrupt enough that he’s pulled from sleep immediately. It continued, over, and over, and over until he gave up on trying to claw his way back to sleep and set out to find who he’d have to yell at.
Of course, when he saw who it ended up being, the yelling part fizzled out into nothing pretty quickly. None of them really wanted to yell at Bob before everything that went down. Doing so after felt especially cruel, all things considered.

“Bob,” a chorus of voices echoes, as six hands gesture emphatically toward the reading chair.
Wilson glances back and forth between Walker and Bob, his frown deepening. “You are saying these two are … engaged?” he asks, suspiciously.
Yelena cannot blame him for having questions. Positioned on opposite sides of the room, not quite looking at each other, both very clearly unhappy with current developments, Walker and Bob certainly don’t look like a couple of newly engaged lovebirds. If anything, they look divorced.

...the monk placed his hand on Diarmuid's back and shoved him.
Diarmuid stumbled foward with a cry of surprise, flailing, falling to his knees at the stranger's feet. He loomed over Diarmuid, his expression obscured by the sun shining in Diarmuid's eyes. With one quick movement, the stranger moved toward Brother Geraldus, gripped his sword with both hands, and drove it, point down, into the white sand. Then, he grabbed Diarmuid by the arm and hauled him to his feet.
"What are you doing?" Diarmuid asked, shrugging him off. He was trembling and hated himself for it.
The man grimaced. He cast a questioning glance back at Brother Geraldus, who hissed, "Go with him, boy! It's a trade!"
A trade? Diarmuid swallowed. The sword—for himself? For what reason? "What does he want with me?"
