Summary

Summary
It was so simple, so routine for him to call upon the many fluttering wisps that called this place their home, just as he did, and guide them into a new purpose. He had performed this ritual hundreds of times. He would perform it hundreds more, surely. Though familiarity did not equate to tedium for Emmrich, not in the slightest, he had to admit the rhythm of it all was quite well worn. He surrendered himself to it, the proper gestures and incantations, the sensation of the Fade and its gentler denizens pressing close around him, answering his call.
So lost in the moment was he, that Emmrich did not hear the footsteps approaching down the long and ruined hall, nor the nervous voices that accompanied them. He did not hear, until it was already upon him, the sound of his life being forever changed.

A mostly canon-compliant following along of the romance between Emmrich Volkarin and my Grey Warden Rook.
Or: the delicious tragedy of an older man who is terrified of his own mortality slowly falling for a younger woman who has long since come to terms with her own.
