Summary
At 21, Jamie writes his first book, a romance novel about an up and coming footballer who embodies everything Jamie isn’t: kind, caring, soft. Published under a pseudonym, it unexpectedly takes off, followed by a sequel in the same vein.
But his third book is different. This time, Jamie pours onto the page what he can’t say aloud: his father’s abuse, his sexuality, the suffocating weight of expectation. Only when he begins to find his place back at Richmond does he start to feel hope again, both for his book and his future.
Meanwhile, Roy, thanks to his yoga mums, becomes hooked on a series of novels by an anonymous author. He never expects one of them to put words to feelings he’s buried for years.

Roy loads the stupid pink leopard thing into Keeley's car, carefully wrapping a stray hoodie around its head to keep its stupid little porcelain ears from getting chipped on its journey to her new life. He takes the plane tickets out of his jacket pocket and stares at them for a moment. Then he stomps back inside, plants his feet in the middle of the lobby, and bellows, "TARTT!"
Jamie's naked top half pops out of the doorway to the gym. "Yeah, Coach?"
Roy tucks the tickets back into his jacket and says, "Let's fucking go."

Summary
Jamie knows what the consequences of embarrassing his dad are but London has made him soft and complacent. He's not able to deal with his dad's tough love in the way that he used to do. But that's fine because he's heading back to Manchester with his hip in a hard brace and with surgery on the cards and his dad's the only one who's stepped up to look after him. Things will go back to normal now.
However if this is normal than why are Roy, Ted and Beard on his doorstep offering him a way out?

With no Keeley and no Yoga Mums in this timeline, Roy withdraws from the outside world and slips rather rapidly into an ugly funk fuelled by alcohol and painkillers.
His sister forces him back to the outside world with once-a-week outings that they come to call "Roy Time" where he can attempt to connect with life beyond football and find something that gives him purpose. Maybe even give him hope.

Summary
The best outcome was winning the match and winning promotion and having Roy pull him into his arms—albeit with a forehead to the face first—and holding him in a tight hug while they celebrated. Unbelievable. Absolutely amazing. Perfect in every way, four stars, would get nutted again for that hug. What Jamie was not prepared for was the weirdest possible outcome, which was Roy sending him a text two weeks after the end of the season that simply contained an address. Presumably his address, but maybe it was the location where Roy planned to make Jamie dig his own grave before murdering him. There was no further explanation given, and Jamie’s common sense told him to ignore it, but his instincts told him it was best to go to where Roy was, and if that was a mysterious location with a pair of shovels, then so be it.
