Taking place sometime after having the Father's Light severed, probably after the events of Heresy. This is largely plotless, focusing on poetically describing the pain of reflecting on psychological/emotional familial abuse and a bit on the trauma of being silenced on his deathbed. In the heat of a breakdown, emotion feels physical.
MAJOR trigger warning, no actual acts of abuse are described but heavily implied and obsessed over.

the word choice and phrasing of this fic makes it actually so devastatingly beautiful. as a lover of poetry and all the sad sloppy metaphorical writing there could ever be, this fic stood out so much as something phenomenal
its a quick read if you don't feel like sitting through some of the other really long fics i have bookmarked and i highly recommend it along with all the other fics in this collection

Mirage is used to existing in a perpetual loop of running late to a school she will never arrive at, resigned to a boring, slice-of-life existence that didn't really have any meaning. Then she runs into two outliers of the loops: a machine called V1 and an angel called Gabriel. Now the loops are a little interesting, even if it is refereeing/popcorning at these two attempting to kill each other around the loop's strict rules of "no killing" and "no violence allowed".
The loop really likes its slice-of-life fluff, okay.

AND NOW YOU WILL BURN."okay. so. chapter 20s out after over a year. i read it. i will never recover
i will preface this note by saying that this has to be one of my favorite fics that i have ever read. everything else can come close—but just aren't the same.
the story is immaculate. its thorough with what it brings and has just the right amount of depth to where it isn't shallow but there's not too much happening. this fanfic is easily novel length and id print it out if i could
i have done a LOT of icarus art and i actually say that he is my favorite ultrakill character. "hes canon in my heart," as i said once while on call with a friend.
this also is one of the only fanfics that has actually made me cry. let alone TWICE.
i got so attached to icarus and the minotaur that the ending actually broke me
raptor's art is also amazing, make sure to check it out
this fic inspired me to make a 5 minute long amv for it (linked in the final chapter, u did not need to do all that raptor but yay!) and write As Above, So Below
i will never get over this fic and i will never view the myth of icarus the same. same with the minotaur or sisyphus.

also i may have a picture of icarus prime that i carry around in my phonecase. this is the second one bc the first one drowned in taco bell hot sauce. this one has traces of lipstick on him. dont ask how.

Trapped in a limbo state between life and death, the Ferryman takes on the task of bringing the souls of the dead to their final destination, motivated more by fear of the unknown than self-sacrifice. When his ship is destroyed by a beast from the depthless seas, he is rescued by an archangel, Gabriel, who mans one of the many lighthouses that keep darkness at bay, powered by a spark of the Father's flame.
The debt of a life saved is not so easily repaid, but the Ferryman is determined to do so, despite Gabriel's strange avoidance and increasingly secretive behaviour. As creatures in steel skin creep from the mists at night, their desperation for blood palpable, the Ferryman determines to follow Gabriel to the ends of the earth, no matter how terrible of an end the archangel carves for himself.

"THE MEANING OF LIFE IS THAT THERE IS NO MEANING - JUST YOU."
after the completion of part one, i thought itd be best to redo this bookmark, because i dont think i truly managed to capture how AMAZING this fic is
probably one of the longest I’ve ever read, minus Justice is Blind or Persistent Variables, but i couldnt sit through those as well as I did 21GE.
this fic has its own SERVER for crying out loud (the people there are awesome btw. very nice guys.) and overall a very creative an active (although niche, though id rather use any other word) fandom
the characters have a lot of deep and thorough lore that makes them all very loveable (gave me some basis for AASB’s archangels, actually.)
also the ocs in this fic are awesome and i dont even think ive seen the majority of them yet. i may be wrong, but with the way the story is told and what the characters say about the facilities and all that, theres gotta be a lot more

alsooo the formatting of this fic is great. people always say “dont use multiple punctuation marks” but wheres the fun in that. especially for a fic like this one—which can get VERY fast paced when needed to be.long live 21ge, the fandom, the characters, and what is to come.

Perhaps this was a good sign. A step in the right direction and away from his downwards spiral of uuuggghhhh. Because the way Mettaton saw it, he now had one of two options.
One: retreat to the lukewarm comforts of a lumpy couch until he became one with the cushions and waited until the inevitable heat death of the universe collapsed onto him to finally end the soul-crushing boredom.
Or two: watch whatever the hell was on his newly acquired TV.
