Steve reaches out to run his hands through the messy head of hair. It phases right through, and Eddie is gone.

Summary
A year after the Winter Soldier failed his mission in DC, Bucky Barnes is doing his best to stay under the radar from both Hydra and Steve Rogers. His hope for a peaceful day-to-day life in limbo goes awry, however, when he meets Queens’ newest hero; a pure-hearted kid with a death wish and a ridiculous pair of red and blue pajamas.
The last thing Steve expects when he finally tracks Bucky down is that, not only has the man been living in Queens all this time, right under his nose, but also that, in the two years since they last saw each other, Bucky somehow acquired a kid.
Alternatively: How Peter Parker effectively fucks over Bucky Barnes, and also totally saves him.

I turn around, and slam my forehead into the deck as I fall to my knees. “Please, god, I know the last time we talked I told you to suck an egg but what the actual fuck. What did I do? Is this because of the gay thing? I’ll stop I swear I’ll knock it off just please—”
“What are you talking about? Why were you swimming all the way out here? What’s with your weird clothes?” The Boy, whom I refuse to name on principle, starts rapid fire shooting out questions while wiggling his way across the tiny boat to me.
“This is actually happening. Oh my god this is real, what the shit…” I turn around from my position on the floor to see The Boy crouched inches from my face. I give an undignified yelp and scramble as far back as I can without tipping over the edge.
He gives me that bright grin and announces “I’m Monkey D. Luffy! I’m gonna be King of the Pirates!” Then he cocks his head to the side. “Who’re you?”

I love this fic and I love the author! I’m on the edge of my seat half the time. I’m gasping, laughing, and crying in all the right spots. This fic just knows how to trigger emotions in just the right places and it's such a good read. It truly feels as if you're being pulled along in the adventures of the protagonist. It's easy to get hooked on this fanfic, and it's just as easy to lose yourself in it. Chapters are long enough to satisfy readers without dragging it on with irrelevant ramble, great audience interaction, realistic reactions from the MC, MC not overpowered (the opposite, in fact, MC needs to put in the work for power and connections). All in all, I can firmly say that this fic is one of my top 5, if not my favorite fic ever.

An impulsive decision leaves Steven near death and trapped in a bubble underwater with nothing to do but contemplate the events leading up to his situation. Time is against him, and darkness and desperation are closing in.
The consequences of his choice leave his friends questioning their own decisions and struggling to communicate with him as they all grapple with the challenges of his recovery.
This fic was written at the end of 2019, before Steven Universe Future had finished airing.
