Summary
Steve looks at him like he knows Bucky means something he won’t say, and then he takes two steps toward their building. He’s been walking next to Bucky for nearly an hour now, face familiar in the growing darkness, in assorted shades of shadow. Bucky would know Steve anywhere, but when he shakes a rueful head at Bucky the glow of the streetlight catches him just right, color warm against his chapped cheeks and snow-littered hair. He looks, just for a moment, like a fallen angel. Like a tiny king.

Summary
The first time that Tony had even an inkling that Thor was far more than what he seemed to be was... way back when, back in the days when Tony had still been an Avenger and he had met Steve for the first time, in the bridge of SHIELD's helicarrier. Thor had looked around the bridge with a strange little quirk to his mouth, one that had seemed uncomfortably close to curiosity and amusement.
It had reminded Tony of the day Howard Stark plus family had been invited to attend the inaugural opening of the Smithsonian Centre for Earth and Planetary Studies. There had been a few vintage planes in there, antique ones dating back even to the time of the Wright Brothers, and Tony had seen his seven-year-old self reflected in the shiny chassis of a Ford Trimotor, wearing a grin that was part curiosity and part amusement. Still, the similarity had been fleeting, and Tony had promptly forgotten about it, at least until now – Thor was wearing that faint grin again, as he sauntered down the line of Tony's collection of speed monsters, occasionally reaching out to touch one.

Summary
While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.
Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.
