His head hurt when he woke up. Not as much as dying had hurt, of course, but it was a severe headache. His body was aching, too. If he moved, he was sure he’d throw his back or something out.
That’s why, instead of moving immediately, he laid on his back for a moment instead. His eyes were refocusing on what he could see above him. Tall buildings stretched above him, he was probably lying in an alley. The sky was red and he could vaguely hear bustling around him.
Ah. So he was in Hell.

Vox gets carried away a lot. And every time, he returns to normal when reality finally hits him in the face. But this isn't the usual (typically Alastor-related) breakdown. This is an insane, suicidal ‘I-don’t-care-what-happens,' 'I’m-a-god-and-this-is-my-destiny’ breakdown. So when Vox acts like it never happened, Velvette and Valentino realize he may need more help than he's letting on.
Luckily for all of them, there’s a Hotel for this sort of thing.

Underneath the domesticity, Alastor carries a 20-year-old score to settle, and when he finally gets the info he's been waiting for, he drags Vox into it with him.
A story of revenge, family drama, a soul-binding, uncovering each other’s closely-held pasts, through the slow and painful work of two people learning to be known, and eventually toward the question neither of them thought they'd answer: what does a future look like for people who never planned to have one?
