Sharpness was having a nice day until Saparata told him he was to be married. Of course he’d expected it because his parents had made it clear for years that, despite his strength, he couldn’t rule the kingdom alone, but he still wasn’t ready for it. He’d barely even turned eighteen.
When Jude's parents told him he’d be courting the prince of the neighbouring kingdom he’d outright refused at first. He was perfectly content in the life he led and, even if he did want to court the prince, there was no way he’d have the chance to. Princes didn't choose Barons.

Either you confess your feelings or die. And Jude had chosen death, he hadn’t admitted it, but he wouldn’t confess his feelings to Sharpness. After what he did? No, he trusted the wrong person and for that Jude would pay the consequences, even if that meant a painful death.
