Summary
The quiz is a disaster. Wracking her head for any nuggets of information she can remember from the lecture that week, she can barely piece together what the questions are asking before the time is called.
Her lab partner, on the other hand, is the first to finish, figure moving as smoothly as blades across ice to the front of the room, placing her paper down with a decisive flutter and returning to her seat, hands crossed in front of her as she waits for everyone else to catch up.
It doesn’t annoy Enid, the elegance with which the girl holds herself. It’s more…intrigue, she supposes.

She fell down immediately, and when none of the adults seemed about to step in and right her, Gideon did it herself. She could skate backward by then, so she took Harrow’s mittened hands and tugged her along in slow, endless circles. She remembers—or thinks she remembers, maybe it’s just her mind filling in from later examples—Harrow’s furrowed, pinched expression of furious concentration. She always hated needing help. More than she hated Gideon, maybe. But that day, for the few hours it took her to get her blades under her, she scowlingly accepted both.

If the pastor correctly hears free as a euphemism for lead in mass suicide, he gives no indication. “They believed my birth was prophesied.”
“Now, that would have been an interesting tidbit to list in your qualifications.” He grins, brandishing her resumé; when the joke falls utterly flat, his grin falters into something more pathetic. “The charismatics do tend to get carried away, don’t they.”
In the year 2000, Harrow gets a job at John Gaius's church, meets his handsome and pious daughter, and things go to Hell in a handbasket.

Summary
Wednesday Addams had a problem - with a year still to go before her 21st birthday, and her trust fund under lock and key until such a day came to pass - she needed money. More specifically, she needed a roommate to help her split the cost of rent. Enid Sinclair was obnoxiously cheerful and an overly bright assault on her senses, but she was also the least offensive option. Over the course of a year, Wednesday grows to tolerate and perhaps even care for someone who was only ever meant to be the temporary solution to her financial woes, someone who she may have let become a friend, and dark gods forbid, someone she found herself feeling more for than she ever thought possible.

"Inside Weems’ office, Wednesday was sitting in The Trouble Chair, the one reserved for those unfortunate enough to find themselves as surprise guests in Weems’ office. Principal Weems was scowling at her. She looked about one snarky comment away from a scoff.
“It wouldn’t have combusted had he not taken it from me and clenched it in his hand,” Wednesday said flatly, followed by the inevitable scoff.
Weems pinched the bridge of her nose, dropping her head into her hand.
“He’s a teacher, he saw a baggie full of white powder and thought one of the students here had hard drugs. Which is exponentially more likely than you having… whatever the hell it was that you had.”
“I don’t think you’re allowed to curse at us,” Enid interrupted.
“Ah, Miss Sinclair,” Weems said tightly. “Here to collect your delinquent I presume?”"

There was Wednesday, standing over Enid in the dark, the moonlight catching on the slope of her jaw and the sharpness of her right cheekbone. Enid forced herself to ignore how striking she looked, how much the moonlight suited her, so that she could choose rightful annoyance over awe. She propped herself up on her elbow, her hair tickling her face as it fell to one side.
“Why am I awake if it’s still dark outside? We graduate in the morning, and I’m trying to get my beauty sleep in before I have to walk.”
Wednesday eyed her carefully.
“Surely, you don’t think you need any more of that,” she remarked.
“Flattery will get you nowhere,” Enid said, despite the fact that the compliment, roundabout as it was, was definitely dulling her exasperation. Truly, they both knew flattery always worked on Enid.
“We need to go to West Virginia,” Wednesday said.
