One of the worst times to have delayed-onset post-nut clarity is the moment the epidural hits. Ask Robert how he knows.
In Robert's defense, he was 21 and no one makes good decisions when they're 21. Nine months after a very enjoyable but objectively stupid one night stand, he comes face to face with the result of his decisions. And he loves her. He loves her so damn much that after coming back from a 3 month coma, 3 months of recovery, and one really unpleasant press conference announcing his retirement, he takes the first job he's offered.
Blonde Blazer's deal is definitely too good to be true, but Robert's damn good at making the best of a bad situation. This one, though, might just stretch him to his limits. Mentoring and wrangling a bunch of former villains is difficult enough on its own, but when one of those villains is the very guy who knocked Robert up almost twelve years prior, who not only remembers him, but apparently remembers him fondly enough to hit on him Day One? Yeah. Well.
Things could be worse, right?

Summary

Blazer hopes that a new dispatcher might alleviate the professional stress. But when an omega is introduced to the dynamic, Robert learns about a rare physical reaction that occurs when a normie alpha and a super alpha are “competing” (they’re not competing) for the same partner.
Biologists call it pheromone mimicry. Robert, who suddenly starts to smell a hell of a lot like an omega, would call it the worst rut that he’s ever had.

Summary
It was not exactly guilt or remorse that allowed Robert to accept Flambae’s increasingly punitive revenge. What started as a transactional punishment - punching to relieve pent-up frustration as promised - devolved into what they had now. Some dark part of Robert that Flambae’s vitriol unlocked reveled in the mistreatment, begged for more. Made him get on his knees and take every delicious punishment, savor every sting, until Flambae was satisfied.

“Look.” he continued, hands raised in surrender. “You’re pissed. I get it. As you know, the rest of my day wasn’t that fucking great either.”
He nodded towards the corner of the ceiling, where one of several small CCTV cameras sat. “But if you’re going to incinerate me, could you at least do it in a blind spot? I don’t exactly want my charred corpse caught in 4k.”
Flambae glanced around at the cameras, puffing out a warm, steady breath. He met Robert’s gaze again, hot embers burning beneath his glare. Flambae’s other fist curled, trembling slightly.
Robert licked his lips and braced, fully expecting to have to come up with a brand new excuse tomorrow for why his nose was busted this time around.
Instead, his eyes narrowed when Flambae’s glare — for the smallest, most imperceptibly short moment — flitted down, tracking the motion. Flambae’s gaze snapped back up, looking caught.
Robert blinked, eyes widening. His mouth fell open, the corner of his mouth ticking up just a fraction. “Oh.”

Except he’s not so benevolent and not so much of a stranger.

The stranger steps closer, large and looming. Viktor is forced to back up. Suddenly feeling like prey. Unsure of whether this is something he likes or not. Heart slamming hard, once, at the notion that he does, that he’s not recoiling away from it. A thrill coursing through him.
“’Thank you, I suppose?” Jayce repeats, voice low, threaded with something darker. “I think you owe me more than that.” That wolfish smile plays on his lips. Showing impossibly white teeth, rivaling the sun’s shine.
The aureate of Viktor’s eyes narrow to a sliver as Jayce prowls another step forward. Viktor takes another step back, cane pressing against the hot pavement. “Compensation? I could perhaps replenish that tank of yours with gas—“
“I’m not looking for gas money, sweetheart.”
