Summary

Rozanov cocked his head. “You speak Russian? Or just the curse words?”
“Yes, I speak Russian,” he snapped, defensive and angry. He knew that it had been a mistake to even try to be friendly with Rozanov. “Why? Do I not look Russian to you?” He scoffed.
“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”
“Go fuck yourself.”

Despite an inauspicious start, when Russia’s Ilya Rozanov learns that Canada’s Shane Hollander is fluent in Russian at their first World Junior Championships tournament, it changes everything and sets them on a different course. Regulus figures some things out about himself; Lily and James figure out what they want.
And then, oh no: James turned to Reg, and grinned wickedly.
“Reg, come on, come sit in my lap. Turnabout on Evans, yeah?” he whispered, and Regulus found himself compulsively swallowing, his eyes too wide, his voice useless. James looked at him more carefully, and whispered even more softly, “please?” and Regulus could not entirely suppress the shiver that cascaded down his spine at that word. He nodded, wordlessly, completely powerless to say no to James, any more than he could have to Lily when she’d asked him the same impossible favor.
James just lifted him, his forearms flexing mesmerizingly, and deposited Regulus in his lap, brushing his fingers through Reg’s hair and down the line of his jaw, and Regulus knew he was too stiff, but Godric and Salazar, he was in James’s lap, and his fingers on his skin felt so nice. He forced himself to breathe, and then just allowed himself to melt into James’s touch, praying he would take it only as going along with the game.
When he finally chanced a glance over at Lily, her eyes were blown wide, and she was frozen, staring.

"Doing what?" he jerks his head, holding onto the hanging strap of his backpack with one hand for dear life.
"Shutting everyone out" She answers and he scoffs, turning around and throwing his backpack onto the bed, "Getting angry at everything, at everyone!" She opens and closes her mouth. Two beats. She sighs. "Making everything so- negative!"
"Jesus!" he shouts, spinning back to her, and she jerks her head back in surprise. "I'm sorry," he speaks in a palpable sarcasm that makes her throat hurt. "Happy?" he asks, arching an eyebrow.
She raises her eyebrows, "What's gotten into you, Michael?" feeling a lump growing thicker in her throat.
He scoffs, bringing his fingers to his temples, groaning, he drops his arms to his sides and shakes his head; "Why do you care?" he spits it like it's worthless to even think about.
"I'm your mother!" and he laughs, he laughs. It's dry and wry, but it's real; he really is genuinely trying to rile her up.
after everything that's been going on, karen takes a moment to finally decipher mike's abandoned seat on the table.
