Sammy sniffed audibly as he clambered up Dean’s spine and got his bony little ankles in their too-big second-hand sneakers around his older brother’s middle. He tucked his chin over Dean’s shoulder, right into that little Sam-space in the hollow of his right clavicle, and Dean decided to ignore the snot he could feel streaking the side of his neck in favor of nudging his cheek up against Sammy’s too-long girl hair. Dean would never admit it, but he loved his kid’s hair. Sammy’s hair smelled like lighter fluid and corn chip dust and greasy motel water and Dean loved it.

Sam stands up, so Dean is forced to look up into his face. Sam turns them slowly, so the small of Dean’s back bumps into the polished wood of the counter.
“I want…” Sam says, eyes flicking down to Dean’s lips and Dean knows when something is too good to be true, knows that this can’t possibly be real, knows—
“Christo.” Dean rasps, just before Sam’s lips land on his, eyes open wide. Sam’s eyes flash black.
“Whoops,” Sam says casually. A thread of tension stretches between them, almost interminable, and then they both move at once. The demon in Sam’s body slams Dean back, and Dean crashes against the bar.

Sam throws his whole body weight into his next pull of the handle, feeling the budding sweat from earlier as a full-body wave, pricking at his neck and armpits and forehead.
Nothing. The door doesn’t budge. Sam’s trapped.

What’s up?
Dean’s holding his guts in with a hoodie. He’s in a ditch on the side of the road, amidst miles and miles of farmland on the side of a highway Dean’s forgotten the number of. A werewolf had done it, so at least Dean gets to look up at a full moon as he dies. After Dad hadn’t picked up, Dean knew there was only one person he wanted to hear from. Only one person who mattered.
“Nothing much,” Dean says, a little strained as a throb of agony rolls up his body. “Thinking about hitting up a bar in a few and thought I’d check in.”

“What should we—“ The real Sam starts to ask, but the image of Sam reaches his arms out, as if grabbing for someone. Sam falls silent.
Someone steps into the cradle of his arms—appearing between one blink and the next—and Sam’s arms wind around them like he knows exactly who they are. He smiles, slow and happy, a hand sliding into short brown hair. It’s a man, Dean realizes, a little surprised.
Sam makes a noise behind him, and Dean doesn’t understand for a second. That’s when he realizes he doesn't recognize the person because he’s not used to looking at this person from the back: it’s him. It’s Dean in his brother’s arms, sliding a leg between Sam’s and leaning forward so Sam has no choice but to press his back fully to the trunk. Sam’s eyes go soft as he looks down at him, and it shouldn’t feel like a punch to the gut, but it does.
“Dean,” He says, and every hair on Dean’s own body raises, as if the Sam behind him had leaned forward and whispered it into his own ear.
And they kiss.

Of course, it doesn't help that there's an Apocalypse to stop (that he started, he knows), a brother who doesn't want to know him, and an archangel who very obviously doesn't like him, and wants to take his son off his hands.
Desperate to save the world, Sam finds some friends to help him along the way, and somehow manages to swing an angry archangel onto his side. But will it be enough to stop the apocalypse for good? Will it be enough to save his family?

Sam is still dealing with the trauma endured in hell when he runs into the amnesiac archangel who fell from the sky. Without his memories though, Lucifer seems to be a much different person than the hallucination that's haunting Sam, and then things start to get complicated...
