Summary
The boy was lying on top of sweaty sheets roughly thrown on a bare mattress. There was only a metre of space or so around the bedframe, most of which was taken up by shed clothes, but there was a corner carved out for a desk. A tape recorder and paper covered in scrawled writing were stacked on top. Afternoon light filtered through the thin blinds, holes letting through slanted sunshine that lit up his shoulder, his collar bone, lower face and his soft mouth. Armand stood in the dark far corner of the room and watched him sleep, the rise and fall of his chest, his mouth slightly open, body soft and languid. The heat was making sleep difficult - the messed up sheets told a story of tossing and turning, and the boy’s loose brown curls were plastered to his forehead with sweat. But for now, Daniel Molloy was asleep. And defenceless. For a boy with such a fierce will to live, he certainly didn't have much of a sense of self-preservation.

Daniel tossed his keys into a fancy glass bowl on the entry table, kicking off his shoes, “preventing my kids from being born doesn't exactly benefit me. Maybe try trading stocks in my name instead.” He paused, turning to look at Armand with a raised brow, “you're jealous.”
“I should have kept you to myself.”
“But you didn't,” Daniel said, “you have now and the rest of forever to make up for it.”
The notion of forever was something that stirred warmth in Armand's gut, not at all a statement intended to arouse him and yet the consideration of the rest of time and willingness to place Armand at his side for it was a permanence he still wasn't fully used to. It wasn't enough, he wanted Daniel all to himself, but it could be a start.

Armand didn’t particularly care much about his promise to Lestat - but after decades of monotony, he liked observing Nicolas. It was entertaining. He liked monitoring the boy, liked seeing how things would progress with somebody who took so disastrously to the blood, liked watching the achingly slow implosion of Nicolas’ broken vampiric mind.
“Perhaps you may have lived,” Armand said softly. “We did not take so much from you in the catacombs that you would have died immediately. It would have been a shame to entice Lestat in using you, only for him to find you dead before he arrived. We took only enough for you to suffer.”
“No,” Nicolas said weakly. “He would have known.”
“Would he?” Armand cocked his head. “He knew very little of being a vampire, and even that wouldn’t have helped him. Do you think he knew where the line was between life and death, Nicolas? Do you think you could have been saved?”
