Summary

this, without a doubt, one of my new favorites of this very niche fandom. i have no idea how i've missed it for years but!!! it fills with hope to know there's always so much more creative and amazing works to be found out there.
I could absolutely go over the bookmark character limits just naming everything i enjoy about this fanfic. it's so, so wonderful to see danny's integration to the batfamily and the specific ramifications of its circumstances. the relationship he has with his new family never stops being absurdly interesting. there's so much thought put into every single thing and it shows! it shows to such a degree that i was left awestruck multiple times. the idea of the Maddie and Jack simply being punished as super villains is brilliantly insightful! they ABSOLUTELY fill the role and did the deeds for it. but it's made better by staying loyal to the Canon and showcasing their sincere love for danny and how these can both exist simultaneously.
The medical exploration-- it honestly couldn't have come to me at a better time of my life. I went through my own medical story arc while reading this and it greatly reassured me in ways that'd make me too flustered to write the rest i still want to say. also just danny's in depth headcanons about his health, how his body functions, EVERYTHING about it-! it's perfect. incredible, INCREDIBLE work
it constantly felt to me like a fantasy dream, more so than the average fanfic. a ton of batfamily fan media has that 'i can help you deal with your own irl family trauma', that I love, don't get me wrong, but this one really turns an extra factor I didn't even know I needed. Bruce unwavering determination to help his kids and his unreal infinite amount of resources for it. Just seeing always helping danny think ahead, help him sketch the outline of his life goals and how to achieve them- it struck me deeply. imagine that, someone understanding what you want from life and just making it seem almost easy to get there. you can study anywhere, do anything, money is no trouble, and any trouble that comes your way, you'll be supported to come through with it. it left me stunned, honestly, I'll probably think about that for a long, long while
there's absolutely more i loved about this story but I'll lend myself some more space to add once I inevitably re-read this one day. I know myself well enough by now to know that I will.
For now, I'll kindly wait more as well. I honestly can't wait to see how the Joker story arc develops!

so, so sweetly horny all the way through. there's so many highlights, the banter, absurd intimacy without arousal or putting together how much they're flirting to one another. then there's these moments, when Beetlejuice has to push back, clearly resentful of the idea some of the softer things reader is saying might just be for the sake of their bet, playing at his heartstrings to get ahead of him. it's a bittersweet thing I always cherish from these fics, how lonely he is and how it shapes soo much about him. i felt it when we were so close to the end and it always overwhelms me a little to the point of being teary. it's a nice aching feeling that always gets suberved by reader finally dating them and it's so, so nice for my little soul
The format of the bet is honestly so smart for a fic. it allows and easy format to push back and forth with flirting and banter and it was so, so fun

THIIIIIISSSSS WASSSSS INCREDIBLE.
such a well rounded story all the way through. it's completely guided by the main themes of disco elysium itself in a way that feels familiar yet innovative at once. it's queer themes were driven up to eleven, as it's only right for a fanfic of this nature, and given voice in the disco elysium language that we all loved so dearly. there so, so many moments throughout the whole story. Harry's new voices, the purple haired girl, the bombs twist. the pacing of this it's bafflingly good, building up piece by piece a story of international consequences that feels worth it of stakes as the ones the very game presented for the disco elysium 2 we may never really get to see.
When I personally found out about the studio's story, I tried not to fall in despair about knowing we won't see the story of Revachol and these many characters continue. Instead, I found myself hoping the fandom would pick up the pieces and build their own spin, their own stories, to wonder about what that could've looked like. Each one unique, special and deeply engaging in their own way. This is definitely one of those for me.
I will come back to it, sooner or later. Stories like this stick to me and I will find more words to express my genuine gratitude for it

WOOOOW THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD FIC.
so, so amazing. the art and writing is great. the mystery? great. the SEXY SEXY COP TIMES? GREAT.
written on Kim's perspective, it feels like more grounded story overall but it's still deeply involving to explore him as a character. the way this smartly links his characteristic control of himself to his race in their society makes SO much sense.
so, so many good moments and such a well paced story. i read it all too quickly but it wasn't a problem for me. this? this amazing fic? this is one of those i'll definitely revisit some day.

it can't be easy, writing on disco elysium's style, but this NAILED IT. completely. Harry's characterization is so amazingly on point down to the alternative speaking options and everything. i adore the way it mixes that with this medium, letting the people around him point out this, in world, must be an odd way to act and think. insinuating there really is both something wrong with his mental health AND something slightly outlandish and supra natural is great stuff too.
The romance... oh, so tender and gradual. For a man like Kim it feels obvious that these actions go beyond friendship but it fits entirely that Harry wouldn't know. He found out he liked Kim barely in chapter 1, so. It was incredibly romantic and touching how determined Kim would help Harry, always respecting him without letting his faults make him think of Harry as less than. He definitely a bit more judgy in canon but he undeniably cares and helps as much as he can. It's perfect and he's so cool and this fic is so amazing. I now have a high standard for every other Disco Elysium fic to fulfill and that shall be their burden. And my pleasure
