Summary
Telling stories never seemed to open her mom’s eyes, at least not all the way. Nancy could explain everything she remembered, every frightening little detail she’d carried with her, and Karen would apologize. She would look genuinely remorseful, genuinely heartbroken by what she had put her daughter through, but her remorse never seemed to carry through into action.
She knew what she’d done. That was almost the worst part. She knew, but she still couldn’t seem to understand that it hurt Nancy even now.
or: nancy visits home, only to find that not much has changed. karen’s alcoholism and insecurities continue to cause tension between them
