    Bruce sat back as the appetizer plates were taken away and replaced with the entrée: filet mignon in a mushroom gravy, served with truffles, asparagus, and black garlic potatoes. He couldn’t help but think Clark would have appreciated this. And he desperately wished he was here with him rather than Vicki.

    He flashed a playful grin at Lex. “Flirting is what makes the world go round, Lex. What is that quote attributed to Oscar Wilde? ‘Everything in the world is about sex except sex, which is about power’. It applies to everything. Make people think you want them, and you’ve got the whole world in your hands.”

    After years of living in the closet, trying to ignore the truth, Bruce is finally cornered and is forced to come out in a very public way. This leads to a series of challenges, blending his public and private life in way he can’t escape.

That would be foolish, and not sensible at all, and a distraction from the more important things in life, like beating up criminals every night and passing his exams.'
    When Clark Kent gets into yet another fight on a night out, his friend Diana suggests he joins the university boxing club to get used to fighting back, without killing someone with his superpowers. Bruce Wayne has just transferred to Metropolis City University and he isn’t happy about it. Unlike everyone else he knows, he misses Gotham. He already has to balance university, being Batman, and his adopted son. As Bruce and Clark grow closer, he also has to manage his growing feelings - which he definitely doesn't have.
    CONTENT WARNINGS: a little bit of swearing, implied abuse, implied & described mild violence, lots of discussion of dead parents.
    This is an AU drawing on several different versions of characters and also my own interpretation of them. Bruce is Battinson, Clark is Corensupes & Smallville, Lex is Smallville, the others are assorted or amalgamations.

    The words echoed despite having nothing to bounce off of but the tightening walls of shock and disbelief that choked Superman as the message played on every phone and billboard within the gathering yet distant crowd. They kept a distance like a wild animal that was only caged by a flimsy rope it could chew through any moment.

    Gotham was flooded. Riddler was contained and under constant surveillance, but that didn't stop the consequences of his actions. Extremists, destroyed neighborhoods, violent criminals. Batman had his claws dug into falling sand through an hourglass. It was only a matter of time before he fell, too.
    The broadcast that had betrayed the world, the man that had betrayed him, only widened the abysmal hole for him drown in, choked by doubts and regret and sand.

    Putting personal feelings aside, Batman held to that vow that held his heart the way the cowl held his pride: Protect.
