Summary
When Ozai died and Iroh took the throne, Zuko was called home from his quest to find the Avatar prematurely and the war ended without the Avatar's intervention. Things have calmed down in the three years since, and Uncle is encouraging Zuko to find a nice Earth Kingdom girl to settle down with, in order to solidify their ties to the other nations. But when the Avatar shows up just before Zuko’s betrothal is scheduled, it appears that destiny cannot be escaped, and that peace is more delicate than Zuko had ever guessed.

After his Agni Kai, Zuko flees the Fire Nation without Iroh or his crew. He finds himself stranded, alone, and injured in the Earth Kingdom when taken in and raised as a healer and farmer by an Earth Kingdom couple. He finds new ways to use his bending and to influence in the changing of the war with new understanding of himself, his bending, and the war. As someone with new perspectives and influence he is able to provide a greater understanding of being a teacher, warrior, and friend when meeting the gaang.

“Yeah,” Eddie agrees immediately. He slides off the bed, turns off the lamp he must have turned on when he came in, and walks around to the other side. He lies on his back in the bed, close enough to the center for Buck to wordlessly move himself into Eddie’s side. Eddie lifts an arm to allow Buck to come closer. “Of course,” He says as he drops his arm to wrap around Buck’s shoulders, effectively making him rest his head on Eddie’s chest, “Always.”
Or, despite everyone escaping the lab alive, Buck can't stop reliving the worst case scenarios when he closes his eyes.

The apartment was silent as she entered and it didn’t take long to find her brother, sitting frozen at the table. He was in the same clothes she’d seen him in when she’d gotten to the VA hospital, same dirt and blood covered skin and angry looking wounds.
She sucked in a breath at the sight of him and dropped her bags on the floor, making her way over to him and dropping to her knees at his feet. “Oh my god, Evan. Have you been here since yesterday?”

Summary
After the tsunami, Buck doesn't become a fire marshal. He joins Dispatch, and he works there until he is cleared to go back to work once he is off the blood thinners. But Buck's confidence in himself and his abilities has been shot ever since he lost Christopher in the tsunami, blame and fear convincing him that he isn't ready to go back to firefighting because he doesn't trust himself anymore. So, at dispatch he stays.
Until a call to 3-Alarm fire downtown goes sour and leads to the first responders scrambling for help, but help isn't coming.
Until Buck realises he is the only help available.
