They’d met young, and Fane had come a year later. Beautiful boy, with Nigel’s eyes and Gabi’s smile, but. He didn’t meet the milestones kids his age should have met. He was pensive and quiet, he would react strangely to certain baby foods, spitting it out or refusing to open his mouth at all, or cry out, fighting the blankets they’d wrap him in after a bath. He had one toy he played with - a little wooden train he’d been teething on the wheel of as a baby, making it somewhat wonky when it rolled. The doctors suspected a developmental delay, autism maybe. Special care, special schools, learning new things, finding alternatives to things that normal kids wouldn’t find difficult.
Recently-single dad Nigel feels in over his head trying to take care of his son, run a business, and keep them both sane. A chance meeting during a tantrum in the supermarket might just help him along.

Hannibal’s gaze snaps back to the man seated behind him, his fingers still hovering in the air to flick away the air bubbles from a syringe. He barely had time to school his surprise into neutrality, and for good reason. One minute, Will is convulsing with a seizure; the next, he is glowering at him, his eyes a dimmer shade of blue. His voice is deeper, huskier, without a trace of panic or confusion. He just sounds annoyed.
It is most peculiar. It doesn’t sound like Will at all.

Nigel snarls. “Why the fuck have you two been following me? You put cameras in my fucking house.” He digs into his pocket and pulls something out. Lenny can hear a clicking noise before Nigel holds a pocket knife to his throat, applying a little pressure.
Adam has the decency to look a little embarrassed. “We love you.” He says it like it’s the most obvious, normal fact in the entire world.
Nigel looks stunned, eyes wide. Not just at the admission, but at the audacity. “What?” He loosens his grip on Lenny’s throat a little, still pressing the knife to it.
“We love you.” Lenny repeats for Adam. “We saw you in a coffee shop months ago and we- oh god Nigel-” Lenny whines, back arching from a pleasure that’s unknown to Nigel’s eyes.
OR
Lenny and Adam, after meeting in college in a very unconventional way, fall in love. They live happily as a couple for a while until they one day see a man in a coffee shop who makes them want to be something more.
