‘How long did you play for?’ he asked Edwin. Questions almost tripped over themselves on their way out of his mouth. ‘And why did you stop? Were you any good? How did I not know about this?’
‘Er.’ Edwin blinked. ‘I played for about twelve years, I mostly stopped when I went to Oxford and it wasn’t as easy to practice, and you didn’t know about it because—I don’t know.’ He ran a hand through his hair, looking harried. ‘I suppose it just didn’t come up.’
Violet snorted. ‘Oh, of course. Never during the entire three months we were trying to unlock the secrets of a musical house named for a keyboard instrument.’

my HEART. the opening image of all of them just, hanging out, relaxing in Hawthorn's parlor, talking about magic, Violet brandishing Maud's earnestness at Jack -- it's such a warmly lit scene; their dynamics are so lived-in and comfortable.
then the way Jack brings up the fact that Edwin plays piano, that he used to play this very one in the room, that there are pieces Jack remembers him playing -- not a single sardonic note to his voice; there's a thawed-out sincerity that conveys so much about how their relationship is continuing to evolve. the history is always there, but it's no longer quite a pit filled with traps. their gradual shift toward a greater ease of interaction and an uncomplicated appreciation of each other is one of my favorite things.
and of course, Robin's thoughts throughout this! for once Edwin's comfort zone not being his most immediate concern because he's curious/jealous (Adelaide looking out for Edwin fills my heart to no end, and Edwin seeing right through Robin is real cute), then all his narration about the music itself....... my god, i could practically breathe in the atmosphere of the room, the spell of coziness brought into being by Edwin's playing and Violet's singing. and the back-and-forth between Robin and Edwin later on is so them, so tinged with amusement and promise.
